As you know my go to is a 99 in a 300 Savage ,but man these rounds are hard to find in these parts, they use to get them in any store in northern Maine as popular as the o'l Turdy -turdy
P.S. too wet out to try the boys new 10mm this weekend ::shrug::
A few years ago, a gentleman was coming out of a gun store with a gym bag. Well, it was full of 300 Savage and some .44 magnum boxes and a few other boxes of 30-30 and such. I was walking from the parking lot and as we approached each other, he asks me if I wanted to buy the bag. The store did not buy used ammo, and he wanted to get rid of it. As I recall he wanted $20 for it all ::woot:: and I was happy to relive him of his burden (back then prices were not as crazy as of late). Not too long after that I ended up getting a Remington Model 81 in 300 Savage. What a happy coincidence! ::groove:: Now as you said, these rounds are hard to find in these parts. So that was a good bit of luck ::nod::

Guarddogg, your photos remind me of why I have always considered the 99 one of the most beautiful rifles ever conceived.

Yeah, if you don't reload ammo you'll have trouble finding 300 Savage or anything else teetering on obsolesce. Trying to get brass is the toughest. Nice looking EG's you have there 'dog.

A buddy has a birthday this week, so his wife set up an outing at the venue below last Saturday night. They throw glow-in-the-dark clays. Was pretty fun. It looked like fireworks going off when we hit the clays.

I picked up this old standby at the show this weekend. It is a Winchester single shot, model 67. I am going to declare jihad on the squirrels in my back yard just as soon a the Bride leaves town. I have some of those sub-sonic rounds so as not to get the neighbors too riled up. It is missing a butt plate and I may or may not try to find one.
I did learn one thing about old 22's and that is they ain't cheap. I remember paying $12 for the one I bought as a kid and this one cost several times that. :D

Ray I paid $14.35 for a boys model 67 a few years ago. It was brand new and I was 12. I still have it. I sold baskets of tomatoes door to door that summer. My commission was .05 cents a basket. Money well spent.

Bob, that is a great looking side by side. Simple, clean. I think I shot better, in days of yore, with an O/U double. But I love the nostalgia of a sxs. A very fine acquisition.

Bighomer the quail left years ago, the few coveys that are around we've decided not to hunt, just go to the quail ranch, semi wild is better than nothing.
QS a o/u has been my shooter for years, I've not hunted with a s/s for 30 years...this will interesting...

There is a thread here called Mystery Knife Game as I’m sure you are all aware. I doubt there’s enough interest for a Mystery Firearms Game. I’m posting one (with NO HINTS) to see the responses. Anyone know who made this functional work of art ? I knew as soon as I saw this photograph. No, I DO NOT own it ! I can only dream.

The side plate identifies it as Westley Richards. The engraving looks German.

Oops ! You’re both correct. That wasn’t the photo I meant to post. My mistake !
I’ll try another. These have no name engraved.
At least no name I can see with my bad eyesight.

I would guess that it’s in a museum somewhere.
Boutet’s guns aren’t plentiful and they are extremely expensive !
