? About older Camillus

Post by Ripster »

Hey Folks could use some feedback regarding this older Sword brand Single blade Camillus . Several things , looking at the kick and the blade. Compared to the lineman’s knife the kick looks good and not filed down . Looking at others from same time frame (early 1900s ) am not sure about this knife . The pin looks good ,blade isn’t centered but that’s not uncommon in these older,Used knives. Can’t find another Camillus with this shield.
Any reference as to model number or a catalog would be very much appreciated! Length closed is 3 and a 1/2 inches long.
Does anyone think the blade from a Camillus is in a different frame ?
Thanks for any feedback.
Take care out there .

Cool looking knife, I like large single blades. From the pics it looks good to me, the shield is unique and I don't remember seeing one.
Could be a early Sword Brand, has a good sized blade but the pull looks a bit forward, reminds me of a scout blade.
There are some good knife mechanic's so maybe its been modified, but why go to the trouble.

The blade shape does look a bit newer to me, but I am certainly not an expert on Camillus. That Sword stamp is not often found on newer knives, so unless you can find some compelling evidence, I would call it legitimate.
It is certainly beautiful!

I think that blade is from an old scout knife. That pull is too far forward for a jack, not to mention a jack of that size from that era would normally have had a long pull. The kick is also too far down for a blade in nearly new condition. Those might not even be Camillus hafts. Here's a link to a Sword Brand scout with a blade that looks just like yours.

I agree with Eric on the pull location. The shield is one I associate with Cattaraugus and I don't remember ever seeing it on a Camillus knife. One bladed jacks with regular frames (other than Barlows, boy's knives) are not all that common and often deserve an extra look. Regular frame jack knives by nature are predominantly found with 2 blades. It isn't all that difficult to make a one bladed knife out of a 2 bladed jack. I'd guess the frame is from a Catt knife that was originally a 2 blade jack.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Thank you ALL. Will agree with the newer blade in a none Camillus Frame. Like Wayne mentioned do also like a single blade with spear . So when I saw it got a little excited but knew something didn’t look ,seem right but went after it anyway . It’s a nice ,functioning user knife and will use at as a EDC. Happy in that regards and learned along the way. And as Ridge posted ,it’s a “nice mutt “either way. Much appreciated Fellas ::handshake::
