I dont know much about knives, even now that I know so much about knives there is so much left to learn. I did my first repair, as I am now learning more about construction and engineering in knives. I started simple with a ontario chef knife with a missing walnut handle. Removed the single scale it had and made a cutout from it in ironwood. It was easy starter, simple sandwich and pin construction. Now I am looking into best ways to remove tarnish and types of tool marks that can ruin a knife a what not to do test. I have this old ugly hobo with what I would consider shoddy construction. It is all what I assume is carbon steel with stainless fork and spoon. Thing is I wanna make sure I aint ruining a knife that is worth something. I say it is shoddy construction but maybe it is so old they didnt have newer construction methods so here is a pic plz tell me is this a good pick for a project by a novice. I see no visible tangs or makers marks

Looks like it is a cheap Japanese knife from the 1960s. Have at it, you won't be ruining a valuable antique.

The more blades a knife has, the more difficult it is to put back together.
I am not saying that you shouldn't try it, just be prepared to take SEVERAL pictures of exactly how each part fits as you first take it apart.
Starting with a 1- or 2-blade knife is typically a bit easier.
Still, you are correct that this Japanese Camper was cheaply made by the millions, and are commonly available at low prices. Nothing lost if it doesn't work.

If you're just going to clean it up you'll be fine. Taking that thing apart and (mostly) reassembling it will be an ugly job. In my opinion you'd be better off finding a one or two blade something or another with a visible pivot pin as a first project. Even something similar to a Buck 110 or 112 would be an easy first project.
