In Corpus Christi, where I was raised, we have an annual fiesta called Buccaneer days. The popular illuminated night parade rolls around, and families head downtown as much as a week in advance and cordon off sidewalks for their family barbeques. All the pageant winners get on their floats in their fancy dresses. We all line up to watch and yell "let me see your shoes!" Funny, it is difficult to stand on those floats for so long a parade route so they are wearing those fancy dresses with flip flops or bedazzled tennis shoes and they lift there dresses all coquettish to show them off.
Point is I started collecting lady legs knives so "let me see your shoes!"

Just wanted to thank everyone for the lady legs. Bought several small carved legs from btrwtr great little knives and traded a Bradford for a lady leg switchblade from cwade7. I am happy with both deals and my shadowbox is looking amazing. I now have lady legs and some figural shoes from as far back as late 1800's all the way up to some newer rough riders with pretty etched blades. Still need a well priced Case lady leg to really be happy so if you are reading this "show me your shoes"

Great looking collection! Watch out for this green one, it might be grenading on you. Search for "Celluloid out-gassing."

My dad was a huge collector of leg knives. He passed away in 1998 but before then traveled to the shows in Cincinnati and Lexington to buy knives. Jim Sargeant always had a few new ones for him. He had well over 100 and we let one of my brothers take the leg knives and we divided the others. My dad had only the old ones, but now my brother has over 250 including many of the newer imports. I have a couple of the original, old Remington Nehi knives in the safe. I'll post pics of next time I'm in there. After my dad retired, he was so consumed with the passion for leg knives that he began making them from wood as a hobby. I think Bobby Neal worked with him on the lay out of the earlier ones. He became more advanced over time and began using woods of darker colors for bolsters. Many of his later knives were beautiful and the blades all have snap, so Bob taught him well. My dad was also a strong Christian man and when he went to visit and witness to his friends and former co-workers, he would oftentimes give them one of his knives as a keepsake. Several years after his passing I saw in the paper that one of his co-workers had passed away and went to the funeral home for visitation. I told his widow who I was and how I knew her husband. She looked shocked and said I want to show you something. She reached into the casket and opened her deceased husbands' hand, and he was clenching the knife my dad had gave him. She said he had told the family that he wanted to be buried with the knife. I guess we just never know what a far-reaching effect an act of kindness can make in a person's life.
This is one of the earliest knives my dad made. I also have more in the safe and will dig them out as well.

definitely a great story, I am always interested to hear what people take with them to the grave, he must have been a good man taking a knife instead of some sorted secret!

As for the other post, I think the middle rough ryder is abalone. I was more worried about the Case with cell stripe handle and one next to it last pic bottom knives. The back of that Case knife is outgassed or at least it only has half a scale could just be from a crack in cell. I am thinking on whether to just rehandle it and not have to worry again I have some pretty ironwood I could use.
