Case XX Pocket Knife 6318 HP SS ?? Seems like a badge variant??

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case XX Pocket Knife 6318 HP SS ?? Seems like a badge variant??

Post by YOUFOUNDADEAL »

Found this knife today. It looks strange to me. The badge has no circle around "CASE"?? and the tang stamp looks weird. What you all think? Typical? Age?

Knife is perfectly fine. That is called the "delrin shield" or “composition shield”. Used on knives with delrin and other non-bone or non-stag handle covers. According to Steve Pfeiffer’s book Collecting Case Knives that shield was introduced in 1974 in response to collector confusion about the appearance of bone handles compared to Delrin. So they put a different shield on those knives.

I can’t see enough of the tang stamp in your picture to determine the age. When the blade is open 90 degrees (half open) you should see some dots, which are the date code system. You can determine the age yourself by comparing that (the number of dots) with the charts shown here https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/ca ... tification in the AAPK Research section (click on Research in the header at the top of this page).

Best picture of the dots i can get. Only 2 can be actually seen without maybe removing the blade.
