I believe scientifically the reason behind that is for ballast when swimming in the water.... similar to an alligator... ::hmm::

You are one clever dog. That either makes perfect sense or I'm just flat out nuts.
There is still some debate over this, ::hmm:: but... Scientists have found that alligators fill their bellies with small rocks as a way to stay underwater for longer periods of time. Ingesting stones equal to just 2.5 percent of the alligators’ body weight increased the animals’ dive time by an average of 88 percent, extending it up to 35 minutes. This behavior is also practiced by some birds (and apparently Labrador retrievers ::paranoid::) .

The rocks swallowed by alligators are also known as gastroliths. In addition to increasing dive time, these gastroliths might also serve other purposes such as a source of minerals, to get rid of parasites, or to help digest difficult meals.

Mischief in a 130 pound package. Sweet boy. Still a pup at 18 months. Receiving end of that ball and rope is substantial. Like a track field hammer, no joke.
A digger as well. Disappears in depth of holes. Might come in handy at some point.
Best loose leash walk dog I ever had. Thank God for that due to his size and strength. Hates bicycles. Working in on it. Major accomplishments in just 6 months. Little by little.
Pictures do no justice. A massive/ giant dog. Hind leg stand, he is eye to eye. Head like a pumpkin, biggest teeth I have ever seen on a dog personally.
Jerry

Think "sweet Cujo". That's him.

Nice pictures Jerry. There is just something about having a great beast like this as your friend that makes this special.
I understand about the digging. My cattle dog mix, Bristol has dug more holes in our yard than I can count. She gets in to about half her body if you let her. Her specialty is moles and chipmunks. She goes for their tunnels and snorts them into a panic and then she finishes them off in a flash. Glad for the critter control but hate the holes.
Those toys look substantial. I guess they would have to be for a dog that big. Wow.

Thank John and Mark for the compliments.

God made bigger dogs but he is awe inspiring every time I lay eyes on him. His winter hair is coming in.

Bond between man and dog is unbreakable. Treasured, grateful, love, commitment, blessed, forgiving, kindness, gentle. Keeps me out of the bars. My dogs are not my fur babies, they are my true friends. We keep one another in line.

I belong to them, they don't belong to me. Worked thus far...

Bear pic when i got him in April with full double coat, prior to rake out for summer. His hair is growing back in quick. Hence the name Bear.

Jerry, that is a beautiful dog! ::tu:: ... I think lots of dogs hate bicycles at first. And like you said, keep working in on it. One you get them to go a few blocks without any falls they start to get used to it. ::hmm:: ... At some point you might even be able to take the training wheels off ::nod::

Thanks for the compliments Mark, GDog! He is a sweetheart as well but to be respected due to sheer size.

Mark, Elsa is not into games of Frisbee, etc but if I stomp my feet and shuffle, she runs large circles and figure eights, get airborne like crazy. Get her exercise and she enjoys it. All that matters.
Great pic of Moki as well. Beautiful dog.

Cool cat Kim. Love the independence of cats. Have two left that are yard cats. Come and go as they please. I enjoy them.

Glad to see you posting, Gino my friend! Sorry for your loss of Blitz. I certainly remember him. Kane is a handsome friend, no doubt! Just love large dogs. Cats are great and small dogs too, but my heart goes to large dogs and not for their ability to jack someone up (although a big plus if situation requires it). Give me a gentle giant in heart or size (both is preferable) and I am a happy human.
We all do it different.

Gino,
I like those uncropped ears!
He's much of a dog. ::tu::
Our old, now retired vet told me a tale about Doberman ears some years ago. Seems that he was cropping the ears of a Dobbie and he handed the cropped portion to his little boy and told him to put them in his pocket and they would make ear sandwiches when they got home. Several days later momma found the ears in the little boy's blue jean pocket while doing the laundry! ::woot::

Sweet story TF. I ask my local Vet for leftovers. Likely tasty on a smoker sandwich.

Big boy Bear today. Saint Pyrenees or Great Bernard, depending on whom describes the canine. BIG sweetheart nonetheless but mischievous, like all dogs. 1.5 years old at 130#. Big puppy. Gentle, sweet giant!

My Friend! He has a partial "Monks Cap". Said to be the kiss of an Angel on St. Bernard. Never heard of it.

Hey Kim. His original name is Tinker Bell. Named by my grandson when he was young and didn't know any better. Not calling a male cat that personally, sorry. So it was truncated to Tink.
He is a handsome fella for sure IMO.
Yes. I have food, water and a heated bed that activates when they lay on it outside on the porch. They (I have another independent one) come and go as they please.
Always come back for a reason. I let them be cats and do what they do but they know I am a good human they can count on.
My other cat Meeka is a 20 yo bag of bones that still kills and roams. Skinny. Sometimes gone for days and I think she is dead but she continues to show back up. Have to get a pic of her.

Bear has a huge pumpkin head. Dark eyes. Oddly reminds me of Barney Rubble' eyes from the Flintstones. Try to get some pics.

Take care, Jerry

On the porch. Sometimes the precipitation, rain or snow blows in on the beds even though porch is roofed but they still work.
They are not warm when you touch them but when they lay on it, it start to warm the bed. Used for my dogs as well. Put your hand beneath your critter after they are on it for a few and they are cozy. They flock to it when it's chilly, trust me. They figure it out..

Lectro Soft Heated Pet Bed. Model LS30. Note that is medium dog size. All my pets love it.

They make sleeping bags for dogs now. Bear's sleeping bag is a double coat of hair, a dogloo and fine straw bedding in it. Cat shelters with heat pads. Go figure.

Where there is a will, there is a way Kim!
Really cold here is minus Fahrenheit 32 degrees freezing.
Averagei is 10 degrees cold here in winter depending on month. Lived through -20 to a daytime high of 20 degrees one winter month straight years ago. All my critters and I survived. I figured it out and adjusted as you will for this cat.

We currently do not feed "driveway" cat and we haven't named him or anything, although I feel we should. He's just there every day. I'm not sure where he's going to go in the winter. This is the first year we've seen him.
Kim,
If Driveway Cat isn’t feral, you should take him to the vet for checkup and name him. Get a litter box and give him a good home. He is showing up every day as he must like y’all and wants to adopt a family. So many unwanted pets are homeless. Not to get political here but there’s no shortage of homeless people either who our government does nothing to help. Many are veterans. Getting back on topic.
My two cats and my dog are all indoor pets and they are well cared for and loved. They are Family (more so than the two legged ones).
I only wish I could have more but lack of space and finances would make it difficult.
You would not regret it.
