Camillus MK1

I’m hoping someone can help me with this. I’m looking at a Camillus that is marked USN on one side & Camillus NY on the other but NO Mark 1. Can someone tell me if this is a MK1 or not please?

C-Man, for comparison, here is my example a Camillus that is marked USN on one side & Camillus NY on the other and marked "Mark 2" as I got it w/this sheath.

I don’t want to damage the gray blade coating.

The wire wheel is out then... Diesel sounds about right...

I’m thinking maybe diesel fuel or gasoline Maybe if I let it soak it will melt off. It’s strange stuff. Rubbing alcohol doesn’t do anything to it.

If the smell of diesel gets to you, do you think the no odor mineral spirits would work? Just a thought.
I’d like to see the after clean up pictures.

I work with diesel daily. I forget that it has an odor. I cannot smell it anymore.

In the end the wire wheel might be the best option anyway. This stuff is really tough. If it was tar it is completely dried out and turned to a solid. I don’t think these were all treated this way. None of my others show any leftover coating.

When I was working on diesels I got the same way with the smell. Would a heat gun help loosen it up? I ask because it was the only thing that loosened up the tar adhesive under some under some 70+ year old tile I removed. Then mineral spirits to finish it up. Just an idea.

I’ll give heat a try. It’s a low priority project right now. But Ill be sure to post pictures when I get a round to it.
