Re: Souvenir knife
Cool knife. I have several knives with Yellowstone markings. Your knife was probably sold in the gift shop at El Tovar, the big hotel on the south rim. Westaco was a brand of Western States Cutlery & Manufacturing Co.

Oh yeah, Grand Canyon is a must see. I was really lucky and had an aunt and uncle take me there when I was 16. We took the mule ride down and stayed over night at the Phantom Ranch at the bottom.

The Grand Canyon is a must see and should be on every person’s bucket list. Most go to the South Rim. Once when my wife and I were there we talked with an older couple who were from Sweden, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They had been there on their honeymoon and had wanted to come back ever since.
The North Rim although less accessible, is far better IMHO. Amazingly it is a much higher elevation than the South Rim. The South Rim is a desert climate, hotter and more crowded. The North Rim is an Alpine climate (a jacket is needed at night even in summer), far less crowded, and the drive (through the Painted Desert, and the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument) to reach it from Phoenix is spectacular. Due to snow, the North Rim is not open from mid-October through mid-May.
