Look at their feedback, but on the other hand you only have to sell one knife like this for a 2-week vacation. I'll guess it doesn't get any bids.

Re: Someone is smoking something
If you read the item description, you will understand the reason for the slightly high asking price.
"RARE! Vintage Anvil pocket knife PRODUCTION ERROR!!!!!! This knife is a one of a kind pocket knife because it's the only production error pocket knife from Anvil to hit the public trading market! If you collect knives like a pro, you'll wanna be in on this one!!! It does say used because this knife doesn't have the original box. However, it still has the original factory edge that it came with."
P.S. all of that said, I would think maybe $4.95 would be a more reasonable price for shipping....

Yes, and it is one of the over 3,400 RARE vintage knives now listed on eBay. If they had only listed more than one pictures I'd be all over it.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

When I see crazy listings like this one that actually sell. I can’t help but think its money laundering.

I have to believe that the seller simply neglected to put a decimal point between the 4 and the 2.

Re: Someone is smoking something
Those Colonial Anvil factory error knives are extremely rare and collectible. Both Levine and Sargent have a whole chapter dedicated to these, probably smuggled out of the factory in a foreman's lunchbox after hours on a late Saturday night. Then locked away in a safety deposit box for years only to be found by a distant heir during the opening of this treasure vault which also contained rare Nazi folding knives and Confederate Civil War D-Guards, both owned and coon-fingered by George Washington.

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

John, it's not that I don't believe you, and there might be some gaps in my knowledge of American history, but wasn't George Washington long dead and gone before the Nazi's arrived on the scene?1967redrider wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 12:31 pm Those Colonial Anvil factory error knives are extremely rare and collectible. It does allow you to make an offer. I thought about offering $2, but decided that, even at that price, the shipping cost and tax made it too much.

The juicier the sales pitch, the higher the price.

Not really related to this knife in particular, but if an Ebay seller says in the description "no returns, refunds, or exchanges" would you buy from them? It would seem to me that they have something defective that they want to move without a chance of getting it back.

Reminds me of the old used car salesman's credo: '' Promise 'em the moon......and then sell 'em a flashlight! ''. I wonder if there is any difference in rarity between a, ''regular'' production error & a '' one-off '' error that might be intentionally induced?

Re: Someone is smoking something
Unfortunately there are folks who conflate pocket knives having production errors with similar coins and stamps. Lots of pocket knives have production errors. But I can count on my nose the number of them I know of that have increased collector value. Even that one in mint condition won’t bring what the OP seller is asking in that listing.

Re: Someone is smoking something
Y’know, every knife I’ve made has had a production error. In fact, I can’t recall any that only had one (some have several).
Does that mean the more errors, the more valuable my knives are? I probably can’t afford my own knives anymore, if so.

Re: Someone is smoking something
I sent the seller this message yesterday and have not gotten a reply.
“How many blades does this knife have? Can you post or send me a pictures of the knife with the blades opened? Thanks”
I guess my questions might have cost another couple grand if answered in the original listing.
