R.R. thems there ed-geema-cated big brains from the Ivy League schools, know everything about everything... Yep... they did a lot of smart stuff like run the Vietnam War, make home mortgages easy to get in 2003-2008, safely and proudly disengage from Afghanistan by competently withdrawing in a proud and strong manner ... Yeah, they are all a lot smarter than a poor 'Ol country boy like me...

Maybe what we need in the USA is something from Lenin's old play book... See, the leaders of the USSR came up with something called "Article 58" I think it is something the good 'Ol Democrats and other "rich men north of Richmond" would LOVE❤ to put into law today...

Article 58 was a great tool back then to keep a questioning populace in check The new Criminal Codes of the 1920s introduced the offence of anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda as one of the many forms of counter-revolutionary activity grouped together under Article 58 of the Russian RSFSR Penal Code. The article was put in force on 25 February 1927 and remained in force throughout the period of Stalinism.

The article was used for the imprisonment and execution of many prominent people, as well as multitudes of common citizens innocent of any "true" crime.

Sentences were long, up to 25 years, and frequently extended indefinitely without trial or consultation. Inmates under Article 58 were known as "politichesky" "politichesky zakliuchonny" or "political prisoner", as opposed to common criminals, "ugolovnik". Upon release, the prisoner would typically be sent into an exile within Russia without the right to settle within 100 km of large cities.

Section 10 of Article 58 made "propaganda and agitation against the Soviet Union" a triable offence, whilst section 12 allowed for onlookers to be prosecuted for not reporting instances of section 10. In effect, Article 58 was carte blanche for the secret police to arrest and imprison anyone deemed suspicious, making for its use as a political weapon. A person could be framed: the latter would arrange an "anti-Soviet" incident in the person's presence and then try the person for it. If the person pleaded innocence, not having reported the incident would also make them liable to imprisonment.
