If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Very nice planes, Willy, but they are very finicky to use. I have my g-grandfather's #45 that dates to the late 1880s / early 1890s. He was a farmer and carpenter in Missouri and Oklahoma in the late 1800 / early 1900s. It's my most cherished plane, but also my least favorite to actually use.

But they are about the best looking plane Stanley ever made.

Hi friends,

Got all my new plates additions hung up in the carport. First picture is looking into the carport from the front. Second picture is looking into the carport from the back. Third picture is the "Wall of Fame". Others are close up from the groups on the sides. Last picture is a new "Wild West" sub-group. ::nod:: ::tu:: ::super_happy::

Another HUGE THANKS going out to C-WADE7 who donated 30 plates to my collection. I had 28, now I have 58. So he more than doubled my collection ::nod:: Still need 11 states. ::tu::

AAPK members who now have a plate or plates together on the "Wall of Fame" include. Myself, JerryD., Steve Warden, Grump01, & C-WADE7. Thanks guys! ::handshake:: ::super_happy::

Enjoy the view. ::handshake:: ::super_happy::

Added ND & a NM to my "Wild West" sub-collection yesterday. ::super_happy::

I'm still missing about 9 states so as I buy those missing states (over the coming months) I'll be adding more and more western states to this group of "Wild West" states. ::tu::

NJ is in the mail. I'll probably hang it where I have Arizona hanging, the add Arizona to this group. ::nod::

What do you guys think of states like Missouri, Idaho, Iowa, Colorado, Nebraska, Utah, Kansas, Arkansas, California or Washington? ::hmm:: Would you consider these to have been part of the "Wild West"? ::shrug:: I have read in some places on the internet that any state west of the Mississippi was considered "Wild West". That seems to take it a bit far IMO. I'd be interested in finding out what you folks would consider to have been part of the "Wild West". Like for example Missouri. When I think of the "Wild West" that state does not pop up in my mind but then again, Jesse James was from there. ::hmm:: Or California is another example, the "Gold Rush" comes to mind but is that a large enough qualification to be considered as part of the "Wild West"? Now days the L.A. Lakers & the Golden Gate Bridge come to mind. If anyone would like to share their thoughs about what states they see as the "Wild West" & which they do not, I'd be interested. ::nod:: Thanks for your input, I appreciate it! ::nod:: ::handshake::

::hmm:: Or another question could be..., which states still have a strong connection to their "Wild West" roots? Like with ranches, livestock, native americans, horses, cowboys ect. Thanks! ::handshake:: ::super_happy::

This month's additions include Vermont, Connecticut & Wisconsin. These 3 are coming from one seller so that saves on shipping costs. ::tu::

Just need 3 more states (Delaware, Alaska & Rhode Island) to complete my collection. ::tu::

Great pick-ups, Tom. You should have plates from all 50 states in no time!

I might be getting back into old radios soon...we'll see.

Fixing an old radio...I'd have to see. Probably something I could do, but would need some practice before I tackle a really valuable one.

Coincidentally I was just yesterday reading about the first commercial transistor radio, designed by Texas Instruments and marketed in conjunction with the IDEA Corporation as the Regency TR-1, in 1954. https://www.edn.com/ti-announces-1st-tr ... r-18-1954/

Texas Instruments was making semiconductor transistors as a replacement for vacuum tubes but the market was limited, so the company decided to create a market for their products. They sold over 100,000 radios the first year, at $50 each (over $400 in today’s money). There were 4 TI transistors in each radio. Seems folks liked the idea of lightweight portable personal entertainment devices. ::groove::

The rest, as they say, is history. And some of those earliest transistor radios, even non-working ones, sell today for thousands of dollars.

Indeed they do! There are two Regency TR-1s in my eBay watch list. Neither has been tested, likely because they used a battery that is now obsolete and most folks don't know how to make a replacement.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/325777051421

Luckily there are still plenty of old radios that sell for much less.
