camillus #72

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Thought I would post some of the ones I picked up over the past several months while I was away. Picked up some nice ones, and some not so nice but just couldn't pass them up. Found some at flea markets, a couple at Antique malls down in south Alabama, and did order a couple. But here they are.

This one from a fellow up in North Carolina that I purchased the Cyber Knives from. A Camillus 72 Chattanooga Coca Cola Bottling commem. Basically a Camillus Double Line Tang Stamp 72Y with CocaCola etch on blades and handle. Not sure when it came out.

Picked up another Camillus Double Line tang stamp 72Y Yellow Jacket.

Next a Camillus Double Line tang stamp Ole Smokey 72
Cam DL 72 OS_a.jpg

Next a Camillus Short Line tang stamp, Bone handle 72. Blades have some pits and stains, but good snap and no wobble.

Continuing with my 72 finds, A Camillus Long Line 72 with the dark reddish brown handles. The reason I split the post was I didn't think it would let you post more than 10 photos. I also have a couple more I will post later when I take the pictures. I also will be posting some in the 72 Clone thread.

I don't blame you. The "spices" just get a little spendy for me most of the time. Quite the group you have there...congratulations!

Well, I pulled the trigger on another one. Pulled this one out of the bay. Came in the mail yesterday, Camillys 72Y Yellow Jacket. Great shape, but this one didn't have the box.

Yesterday afternoon, my visit to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also becomes the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a CAMILLUS 72, FIRST GENERATION, three blades, two tang stamps, 3 5/8" closed, swelled center, a long matchstrike and blade pull, two springs, "whittler" pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp (short line) says, "CAMILLUS (over) NEW YORK (over) USA" The main blade back tang stamp says "72", the pattern number. The main blade has a weak half stop, but has a good opening and closing snap. The secondary blade has a weak half stop, but has a good opening and closing snap. The third blade has a good half stop, along with a very good opening and closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. I did NOT clean it at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

This morning, my trip to the post office produced this advertising pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also becomes the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a CAMILLUS 72, three blades, two tang stamps, two blade etches, two bolster stamps, 3 5/8" closed, swelled center, a long matchstrike and blade pull, two springs, advertising, "whittler" pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp (double line) says, "CAMILLUS (over) New York (over) U.S.A." The main blade back tang stamp says "72", the pattern number. The main blade front etch says, "Chattanooga Coca-Cola" The third blade back etch says, "World's First - Coca-Cola Bottler" The left front bolster is stamped "040" The right front bolster is stamped "1992" The main handle side says "Coca-Cola" The main blade has no half stop, but it does have a good opening and closing snap. The secondary blade has a weak half stop, but it has a good opening and closing snap. The third blade has a good half stop, along with a good opening and closing snap. This pocket knife came with a box and the paperwork. I do not know if this is the box and or the paperwork that this pocket knife originally came with. This pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. I did NOT clean it at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.
Caption(s), if any, are on the BOTTOM of the corresponding picture(s).
Click on a picture to ENLARGE.

***** EDIT *****
I have REMOVED that dark strip on the bolster near the scale.
You can plainly see it in pictures #2 and #7, posted below.

***** NOTE *****
Just for the heck of it, I searched the AAPK site to see how many CAMILLUS, Chattanooga Coca-Cola pocket knives were floating around. I just did a basic search, nothing in depth or headache causing. Besides mine, I only found three more. The three digit, bolster stamped serial numbers, are in order as follows:
040 - New_Windsor_NY (me)
042 - Papa Bones
052 - jerryd6818
078 - doglegg

Do you have one or more?
