Here's a HILGER (Germany) with the mystery "Bone/Stag". Very densely capillaried.
The plot thickens. J.O'.

Here is a German western co. Imported by Wiebush and Hilger New York . Goins gives a 1874 -1914 date. The knife in hand to me appears to have natural formed scales from what I believe MAY BE from a red tailed stag .Being that I’m just a novice knife collector and do not have a degree in biology I could easily be wrong.

Hey I'm no expert, but I did see a thread on this stuff and a lot of it is actually pressed bone made to look like antler. I do not comment on your knife, I don't know, I can't say. What I do know is there are some bone stags that look pretty good and are hard to tell from the real thing and I would put this on another thread where it has been discussed and you would probably get someone who knows to comment. Cool looking stuff whatever it is. Good luck.

If it helps I just went back a few pages in this thread to pages 19-21. There are examples of this kind of covers and some commentary too. Worth checking it out for ID purposes. Hope it helps.

I-Man, you know a lot about bone then me I reckon, I wish I had you around last week I was buying knives out of a collection and there were lots of "Bone" scales and the prices weren't cheap and there I was trying to make sure it was real bone and not wanting to buy something synthetic while paying a "real Bone" price.

Thanks bud, but it's not really me. If I know anything it's because I tried to follow those who came before me and tried to learn their knowledge. Here on AAPK is a great source. I have learned tons about bone, stag, fake stag and bone, Delrin, etc. just from other's experiences and the fact they were nice enough to post it and share it with us. I have to defer all credit to those others who came before me and those here now who post stuff about their bone and experience. That's the only reason I commented on the pressed bone. I would not have known a thing were it not for the contributions of those who posted it in this thread and other threads. But thanks for the notice and I appreciate your take and always like seeing what you post and your thoughts. All the best to you and everyone else who spreads the word around here. Has benefitted me tons over the last decade or so, even before I joined, when I just surfed around and checked out other people's knives. Thanks again and thanks to all the knowledgeable contributors.
