In an antique shop any ideas folds in two places only opens as far as shown
An uncontrolled accumulator.

That is a NASTY weapon used by cavalry in the east, like Afghanistan. Yours looks a little small and more modern but these were made to slice an enemy's horse's hamstring muscle. Nasty. I have seen longer and much more ornate ones at antique arms shows. There is a name for them but I have forgotten it.

I have two kukris with the same decoration on the handle , they are made in Nepal for the tourist trade. I can not tell you what your knife is called.
