Shane Sloan Trapper

Post by Paladin »

I took a stag trapper on trade at a show this weekend. I'll put a photo below. Is anyone out there familar with this brand? I did the usual searches and most of what I found cost about $7.95.
The tang is stamped with a curved SHANE SLOAN (over) PRODUCTION (over) NEW CASTLE, TX.
And what gives with a pentagram shield??

Shield is probably for the Great State of Texas, you know the Lone Star state ::shrug:: I like it, never heard of that stamp/brand but looks QUEEN made.

I knew Shane many years back. His Dad, Punk, is a real treat. Shane was still making knives the old fashioned way in his little shop in Newcastle when I knew him. I swapped him out of a 25lb Baby Giant trip hammer that was originally in the Newcastle Blacksmith shop.

Sold it back in '91. Still kicking self in butt over that move. ::dang::

I've seen lots of Shane Sloan stuff made by everybody but him. Guess he went big time. Trapper looks pretty much like a Queen to me too.

I found a Shane Sloan in the big box of knives collection real nice antler handle. They cost way more than 7.95 though...

I’ve had the pleasure of talking with Shane at TX. shows a number of times. He was always very upbeat and personable. He had a real talent for making and design including folders. I think he had a lot of factory production knives branded with his name for design. Your knife looks like one he made. Haven’t seen or talked to him in years. Hope he is doing well. Maybe someone can give more info and an update.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
