Cal, it just looks to me like the blades have been heavily treated with a belt sander or a wire wheel.

Yes; quite clear on that. The bone doesn't look Schrade to me.

Re: Fishy?
Cal I'm with you on the bone, never seen that jigging on a Schrade before. Also, pretty much all of those big equal ends were shielded. If I recall correctly the Armstrong Special knives had ivory celluloid handles, with a shield. I'd say it's definitely a re-handle. Good job but not original.

I agree, the bone doesn't add up for a Schrade knife. Looks like someone didn't like the celluloid or maybe it was damaged.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Re: Fishy?
How could anyone grind away with a steel wire wheel on the blades and still have a clear etch (on top!) of that? Curious minds would like to know.

Re: Fishy?
Looks like all the blades have a glazed finish and someone has worked around the etch with an abrasive of some sort. All the lines around the etch look correct for a glazed finish but other areas including the flat above the etch are disturbed. The mark side tip and into the etch looks worked as well.tongueriver wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2023 9:33 pm How could anyone grind away with a steel wire wheel on the blades and still have a clear etch (on top!) of that? I can't see Schrade covering up the bottom of the tang stamp on the master, either. I think the clip main was from a square bolstered knife.

Re: Fishy?
The original was a round bolstered knife. I think everything on that knife is legit except the handles. Those were probably replaced due to the originals being celluloid. the bottom portion of the tang stamps are often obscured when the blade is fully opened. Always easier to see them when the blade is in the half open position. Here's a photo of an original Armstrong Special:black mamba wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 12:40 pm I can't see Schrade covering up the bottom of the tang stamp on the master, either. Interesting knife that Eric posted.
This seller has put up a number of cobbled/reworked knives, along with many good knives.
