Jim, that Microtech is a great knife! I handled one like it (same model but didn’t have the flag covers though) at the Microtech booth at a show, and it made me want an OTF. My youngest son now has one for his EDC. He’s a lefty so the ambidextrous trigger mechanism is great for him. I’m not a collector of automatics though so can’t justify spending that much for one. I would carry and use it. It is a nice knife though.

At least you can find one to buy! My grail knives have always been like looking for a unicorn. Biggest challenge is to find one.

ok, I never thought of this as a holy grail, but it might be the most elusive one on my list.

in 1977 the back of the card had a "Premium Stock knife" in this lower-left slot (I've got it and the others on cards - in other posts) , but in 1981 they pictured the "Super 5" in its place. Problem is, THIS is the ONLY picture, or even REFERENCE to an "Imperial Super 5" i have yet been able to find.

Its a basic Imperial knife, nothing fancy, and I have to imagine there is one out there somewhere but it may be one I never really expect to see.
(now watch one of you tell me you have 3 of em...ha)

Took awhile for the previous owner to coordinate his location and the location of this knife in the same state at the same time and a somewhat reluctant middleman (sorry jerryd ), but at long last I was able to secure this Holy Grail knife that I had pretty much given up on ever owning.

It's an unusual one to be sure and not anything at all like the types of knives I generally collect; but, for several reasons this one carries a lot of special significance to me. I am particularly drawn to the detailed laser-cut image of a Pacific Blue Marlin (for those of you who don't know, Kona, HI, where I live, is the home of the world famous "Billfish Tournament"). I've seen a number of these Spyderco "Q" knives with skeletonized handles and laser-cut blades, but none quite as unique and interesting as this one IMHO. Even the wire lock back is fascinating to me for its simple yet functional design. The wire pocket clip can be located in all 4 positions quite easily using a pair of pliers. The combination of minimalist and elaborate elements fascinates me to no end.

Thank you jerryd and cousin Lavern for allowing me to acquire my final Holy Grail knife; couldn't have done it without you.

I have 2 Grail knives, a WWI 1918 knuckle knife. And a Eugene Stone KA-BAR. He was on a USN ship and he would cast a dragon handle on issued knives after the leather rotted off. KA-BAR has a tribute knife made by Eugene’s son for $1000!

I think that Albert Baer bought the Richards factory in England around that time, and a few Imperials were made there. The Super 5 looks like a Richards pattern. I've seen tons of the Richards ones. So, either it wasn't made, was made in small numbers, or Richards ones were sold on Imperial cards.

My Holy Grail used to be a Terrier five inch EZ Open Jack, but I have one now.

I recently saw a Terrier Gunstock Jack and that is now my Holy Grail.

Also would love to find a Terrier Knife Box or any legitimate Terrier literature or paperwork.

Now to find it on an Imperial card, that may take a little longer.

*update: just found a bit more, tying Richards to Imperial (and then Western) - Great tip so far Cody !

*Update to update: This was actually a nice example, so even though not Imperial stamped, I picked it up anyway (just now on the bay). Even in Red as I kind of always pictured it in my head. Things move fast around here ! (even got a 35% off offer - it was meant to be !)

Timing wise this really lines up too.
Richards sells to Imperial in 1977 (the year of the other models on the Imperial cards)
In 1981 Imperial replaces the Premium Stock Knife with the "Super 5" (on the card back images at least).
But in 1982 they sell to Western.
So yea, maybe this never made production or is as scarces as I thought it might be, and at least makes for an interesting story.
