In the U.S. June 14th is the day which celebrates our national symbol, the American flag. A flag containing 13 alternating red and white stripes with a blue field covered with white stars (one star for each state in the union) was adopted by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. June 14 was officially established as Flag Day in 1916 by proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson.

The week in which June 14 falls is recognized as Flag Week. This year tomorrow, Sunday June 11th marks the beginning of Flag Week. Fly your flags!

Thank you, Ken, for the post about the flag. I wasn't aware of Flag Day or Flag Week and I see now Flag Day is posted on my calendar.

David, you are welcome to use it anywhere. No attribution needed or wanted. The more folks flying our flag the better! I simply summarized in my words the “Commissioner’s Minute” from a BSA meeting I attended this past week.

I always heard that when American forces are deployed anywhere in the world, it is appropriate to fly the flag daily, which we do. The flag on the garage door is special for Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, and Flag Week. It was on my Grandfather's coffin in November of 1966. He was Ignaz Karl Gretsky, a Polish immigrant who served in the US Navy in WWI and an extremely proud American citizen. It flies in his honor. J.O'.

My wife and I put 25 flags out in town today. The scouts took over the flag program from the Rotary Club so 7 holidays a year we put out flags to people who subscribe to the program. The money is used to help pay for camps and dues. The boys left out for camp today so as Scoutmaster I got to pick up the slack. I head up Tuesday after work to camp the rest of the week with them.

My 2 grandsons are both Cubs and love it. We're proud of them. My son is a leader too. I was in Scouts for 8 years and was a patrol leader: my brother was troop. quartermaster. It was an active troop. I always say my Scout training served me better than my Army training when I needed it. "Be Prepared", so simple, so profoundly important. Good luck to you and the Troop. O'.
