Bark River SOCOM

When i first got this piece a couple of years ago, i was reluctant to use it because it was marked "PROTOTYPE". Well i did end up using it with no regrets. It sees kitchen duty, yard/garden duty and is a sweet performer. All i need now is a RANDALL #1 to see if the quality justifies the price, because my SOCOM was alot cheaper than a #1

I bought a Highland years ago when they first came out. Handy little knife for sure. That A2 steel that Bark River uses is top notch stuff! My only complaint is the sheath. Barkies have better sheaths these days in my humble opinion. Mike Stewart is one of my favorite fixed blade makers. I have a Blackjack Trailguide in stag that is not only a sweet looker but cuts great as well.

I also have a Socom prototype, with the greenish burl handle (man i need to update my pics…), it, like all Barkies, is an incredible piece of steel. I’ve only ever seen yours and mine though, does anyone have any info on this model? I know it never went into full production, it has an unusual grind, but is so similar to a Blackjack that I imagine most people mistake it for a 1-7.

Anyone else here have one?

I have one. I think it is great and I kept it in the box and have not carried it nor cut with it. .... Maybe someday....

I have seen one that the owner had cut the top hand guard of so he could run his thumb up on the spin when using it... Looked cool ... and I thought about doing that to mine... But today .... I am soooo glad I did NOT do that!
