Nice picture, O.C. I have paid more attention to MLB this year after 2 or 3 years away. I have a few teams that I follow more than others, but try to keep up with all. I have been noticing the Twins off to a nice start.
This next series will be interesting. Syndegard has not been good, and they have a good opportunity to open the series with a win. Then, a couple of good matchups with Ober/Kershaw, and Gray/May.

You got that right. They did pretty good in April but when May reared it's ugly head, they fell through their anal orifice.
You picked the right two games to attend because the Cubs won Friday's game 6-2. Just so you don't think they're totally pathetic.

I’ve made it to a couple of Ranger’s games this year and enjoying their early success, while holding my breath waiting for the bottom to fall out. And doing it with Seager, DeGrom, and Garver on the IL! https://www.mlb.com/news/rangers-histor ... 4158311527 The Rangers in first place with a four game lead over the Lastros, and the damnYankees in last place in the AL East? Who’d a thunk it?! It’s early yet so we’ll see how much longer it holds.

Meanwhile I’m still ambiguous about the new pitch clock rule. I like the shorter games (especially when the Rangers are playing night games on the West coast that no longer last til 1 AM). But now you can’t even make a “pit stop” run without missing half an inning.

Yankees a half game out of last place? Music to my ears. And St Louis in last place? Someone struck up the band. ::woot:: ::tu::

I’ve found I can do without their expensive beer and most of the rest of the concessions also. The Rangers let you bring in a 16 oz unopened bottle of water per person, so I bring my own. I do get a load of those fake cheese nachos occasionally though. ::sotb:: Something about the jalapeños keeps calling to me ………..

You are absolutely correct, Ken!

Crazy stat from yesterday's games......Cardinals got an excellent game from pitcher Jack Flaherty against the Brewers, and their offense exploded for 18 runs, 10 of those in the 8th inning. In that 8th inning, backup catcher Andrew Knizner entered the game as a pinch runner, and then came to bat later in that same inning as the offense more than batted around. He then hit a grand slam in the same inning in which he had entered as a pinch runner. That may not be a first in MLB history, but it is certainly a rarity if not.

A little known gem outside of Birmingham, but our Rickwood Field, the oldest baseball park in America, held its first game on August 18th, 1910, making it older than any of the iconic major league parks.

Both the Birmingham Barons and the Black Barons played here on alternate weekends. Satchel Paige won more games here than for any other team for which he played.

Young, brash Dizzy Dean, who bragged he would win, lost here to a forty-three year old pitcher, Ray Caldwell.

Willie Mays played here, as did numerous other Hall of Fame players.

It’s well maintained and frequently used for old timer’s and other special games.

It has a busy Summer schedule.

Take the tour.

Went to a Rangers Star Wars theme night a few years ago. In addition to the give-away promo (I can't recall what it was) they had Star Wars characters in costume. Luke Skywalker, Princess whatever-her-name, storm troopers and of course Darth Vader were roaming the stadium and having their pictures made with fans in attendance. The kids loved it, and some adults did too.

Tomorrow the Rangers are giving away replica 1970's Fergie Jenkins jerseys. Trying to get our son to go and get me one. I've always been a big fan of Fergie and saw him pitch a one-hit shutout of the Oakland A's, back when the A's were really good. The only hit the A's got was an infield single by Bert Campaneris. Fergie struck out Reggie Jackson several times. The last time, Reggie swung so hard at Fergie's change-up that he fell down. He got up, dusted himself off, tipped his cap to Fergie, and walked back to the bench. ::groove:: Class. No hot-dogging like we see so often now.

As a resident of the Detroit area, I must say I would have preferred a Tigers win. But I'm used to less than stellar performances out of them.

So, Will Brennan of the Guardians killed a bird last night with a line drive from his bat. The article I read reached into the archives and included the famous video of Randy Johnson totally obliterating a bird which had made the fatal mistake of flying between the mound and batters box as Johnson was delivering. Anyone who has never seen this video should, and if you have seen it before, it is always good for another look.

The bottom doesn't appear to be dropping out anytime soon.
They are still in 1st place, and after that 16 run game yesterday, I checked team stats just out of curiousity. They are dominating (1st or 2nd) in nearly every offensive category. It has been an exciting season all around, imo.

We were at that game. What a party! With Seager, Garver and Duran back from the IL now and adding to what they’ve had to date, they’re scary good. So far they’re dominating in defense and pitching too, especially their starters. deGrom is expected back within the next week or two, and so far they haven’t missed him! If/when he returns true to form, a pretty good starting pitcher is going to the bullpen.

They had a good offense last year (5th in all of MLB in runs scored) which was buried by the lousy record. They added some good pitching and the offense has been even better, with guys stepping up for the injured. Holding my breath and crossing fingers. It’s still early, they’ll inevitably hit a slump at some point. Bochy seems to have a knack for resting guys when they need it and finding the hot hand to fill in.

The Lastros are good and they’re lurking. I’m enjoying it while it lasts and starting to believe this year’s Rangers are contenders for real. They won again today to sweep Seattle.

He is special. With Sunday’s win he’s now in sole possession of 10th place all-time in wins by an MLB manager. Behind him on the list are Walter Alston, Leo Durocher, and Casey Stengel. All three of them are in the MLB Hall of Fame.

Anyone who doubts his ability, should look back at his record in San Diego. He had multiple 90 win seasons with teams that most likely, would have been "also rans" under someone else. Even that first W.S. team in San Fran had less than a star studded lineup, Bumgarner had yet to reach his potential.

Had he mamaged in the Bronx, there would be a new monument in the outfield.
