Jtx, it looks like you are onto something there with beautiful new Benchmade,Jtx wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 1:56 pmThanks for asking about this Benchmade. It is a new design that was released last week. Blade is only about 2 1/2'. The handles are aluminum. The blade is M4 steel. My local store had all three of the different handle colors. The knife name is Full Immunity and the price made me pause. However, after handling it, I knew I had to have it.
The only thing I don't like about it is the name...

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
I used to buy Klein & Sons knives all the time at a used tool shop that sold only 2nd hand tools. I could get a used standard TL-29 format hawkbill for about $5 (5-7 years ago). If I lost a hawkbill, or gave it away, no big deal, I could always find another one there sooner or later. Then the city started a road widening project in front of the store of course making it nearly impossible to turn into the parking lot. Then the manager left and personnel changed and prices shot up, so I stopped going. I have a nice stockpile of both types of knives, so at this point no need to keep getting more.cody6268 wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 8:18 pmNeed to get another one of those. Got both the hawkbill and older coping blade variant in a used lot--gave away the hawkbill one. I really like this combo for most tasks I do around here, as I don't have to carry a hawkbill AND a TL-29.
PS: I emailed Utica and asked who they were still making these for. Utica told me they're still making them for Proto. It's the J18535 through them (standard TL-29 format is J18500). However, I bet it ain't cheap. I once asked Fastenal what the price was if they specially ordered the Proto version of the ubiquitous Klein hawkbill--$50 when the going price for the Klein was $30! I'm purchasing my first 1/2" ratchet soon, and I need to check to see what the local mine supply (my nearest Proto dealer) asks. Hopefully, they're cheaper.
That being said, it pains me to see Klein Tools not made in the US anymore. They were always a great value. I have a Proto "110" type folder, I suppose it was made by Utica...
