All About Vegetation, House Plants, Gardens, Trees ect.

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Spring came early. Many of my perennials started blooming in February. They are doing great this year.

Things are being to get lush around here, warm nights and long periods of sunshine plus a little rain makes it so.

Now that my fence is finally painted I thought it needed an eye catcher. ::tu::

Off to the left is my little wood shed. I have an ooooold wooden window that my nieghbor gave to me a few weeks back. I painted it & I want to put it in the wall of the wood shed tomarrow. I'm going to put it in backwards or inside-out so the pretty old hinges can be seen by people passing by. ::nod:: If I get it done tomorrow I'll show you all some pictures of it tomarrow. ::tu::

Here, is my wine crate eye catcher.

Edit what I said yesterday about putting a window in my wood shed today. It looks a lot like it's going to rain today. May have to make a change of plans. ::disgust:: Also wanted to fire up the grill today for the first time this year. That might not happen either. ::doh:: It's still early though. Maybe it will look better in a couple of hours like the Witch doctors said it would be. ::shrug:: Time will tell. ::paranoid::

Thanks Joe! :D

Weather held, no rain today. Got the old window mounted but I just put it on the wall insted of in the wall. I decided I didn't want nosey looking inside my shed. My daughter Lorelai decorated it for me with chalk markers. They can be washed off of glass. Turned out nice. I really like the old hinges on it. ::nod:: :D

We also fired up the Weber & grilled some steaks & bratwurst for dinner. ::tu:: ::super_happy::

Have a great weekend folks. ::handshake:: ::super_happy::

The paintbush, bluebonnets and tiger spring wildflowers are just about done blooming here. We’ve started moving into the summer wildflower season. I took these shots in the pastures yesterday.

How about "Canned Crack-Trees" & a few EDC's.

I call these"Crack-Trees" for two reasons. First off, I don't know what kind of trees they are & because that's literally what they are. I was on my way home from work a few weeks ago & I decided to call my wife & ask her if she needed me to pick up anything on my way home. There was a nice little parking/rest area on a hillside overlooking a town called Hammelburg so I pulled off to make a call. There was a concrete slab with a Pic-Nic table there so I got out of the car & walked over to it. The slab was a bit older and had a number cracks in it where leaves had turned into soil & a large number of small trees were growing up out of them. Many had been trampled on and broken. ::doh::

Long story short, the next day I took a Tupperware box & a bottle of tap water to work with me. On my way home that evening I stopped by the rest area again & collected about 20 small trees from the cracks in the concrete slab. ::nod:: ::tu::

The last tree pictures are of another "Crack-Tree". It grows in front of my wood shed in an old concrete feeding trough that was in the basement of my house where there used to be pigs & cows (but that was before my time). Anyways it grows there with some flowers. I saved it from a crack on the balcony of the Mason's Lodge in Schweinfurt, Germany about ::shrug:: maybe 20 years ago. (Yes, I used to be a Mason many years ago.) I know that a feeding trough or a tin can is not the ideal growing environment for trees but it's better than a crack in the concrete somewhere & it's better than getting trampled on. ::nod:: ::tu::
When I see trees in a situation like that, I just feel as if they need my help. ::facepalm:: Stupid but true. ::dang::  Do a good deed, Save a "Crack -Tree". ::nod:: ::tu::
I look at them as Bonsai trees.

So anyways..., that's the story behind "Canned Crack-Trees" & a few EDC's.

My "Crack-Trees" are getting a second pair of leaves now & now I can tell that they are some sort of maple tree. Looks like ( "Spitzahorn" = ) Norway maple to me. ::super_happy:: Some of the leaves are tiny, tiny, tiny and have the maple tree form. Very cute to look at. ::nod:: ::super_happy::

What tree is this?

Reminds me of Hackberry, but it doesn’t seem quite right.
