Misspelling on Ebay Auctions = Bargains, Sometimes

Have you ever gotten a really good knife off Ebay due to the seller misspelling the brand name?

I have.

The best was three mint Robesons, two pearl four blade senators, and one four blade black composition inter-frame senator, all from the 1920's to 1930's. They were individual auctions, but from the same seller. The seller spelled Robeson, "Roberson", and I was the only bidder. Counting shipping and all, I got the three knives for $80.00 each on average.

Now, it's apparently happened again. I just bought this old Robeson RCC barlow for $78.00, because they listed it as "Robinson" instead of Robeson. Shipping was reasonable. I think I came out good at under $82.00.

Of course, I've not had the knife in hand, but it looks very good thus far. It is most likely far better than the example of this aged knife, in that pattern, that I currently own.

I'll post some better pics to vindicate or dispel my elation when it arrives.

I cannot even begin to list the ways Ebay sellers have spelled, "ShurEdge".

I've seen and made out a time or two when the seller didn't know what they had or couldn't spell it. I think I ran across that one doing a search for knives with "jack" in the description and was looking at the rest of the stuff he had up for sale.

I was watching that one to see where it ended up. Great knife. That posted shipping from Indio seems a bit on the rough side. Hope he made you a better deal.

I know this seller lists some questionable knives, but this old Robeson certainly looks legit to me.

Ive got some bargains when they simply left the word KNIFE off of the heading! Bought a nice Vintage Wr. Case Jack last year for like 40 bucks. Sold it a few months later useing the same pictures for over 300.00.

You made me question my old memory, and you were right. He charged me $10.00 shipping. At least it wasn't the $15.00 stated in the auction. Ten dollars is too high in my opinion. Fifteen is outrageous.

So, I stand corrected by Owd Wullie. I paid $88.00 for the barlow. Still a bargain, though.

Haven't seen the Crucible yet. I'm up in Southern MO aggravating the local populace and visiting my in-laws.

I am a very fortunate man to have such great in-laws.

I've found bargains not so much from misspellings but from incorrect listings.I guess I can reveal this one as I am just about done purchasing stuff from eBay due to their stupid payment policies.
I scored three or four beautiful small 1900-era daggers that had been listed as letter openers.One I missed on because I had a policy of never bidding more than $20 for a knife early on was an Abraham Davey bowie circa 1850.The picture was fuzzy and I was a bit unsure.It went for $25!
After the auction I sent an e-mail to the winner congratulating him and opining that he probably got a great deal.Many months later he sent me these pics of the knife and said he was a bit disappointed that it wasn't in better condition! Needless to say I offered to double his investment but he declined.Here are the pics he sent.

Some poor soul has 5 or 6 Catteraugus knives that arent bringing much! Its a shame,,,one of thems a barlow and has Cattaraugus spelled out on the bolster for him and he still spelled it wrong!
