Need info about a Case XX

Hello,

I hope someone here can help me out. I inherited a knife from my father when he passed away last december and was wondering if anyone could help me find out its value and if its a hard to find item. I need to know if I should already lock it up special. It is a Case XX based on the tang stamp made between 1980-1989, and pattern stamp is 6249 (bone, copperhead, 2 blade). Now for the special part it is a John Wayne "True Grit" knife. The main blade says, John Wayne "True Grit" and bears a likeness of his character from the movie. The second blade says, Rooster Cogburn U.S. Marshall. It is an a wooden case with clear glass top and nameplate bearing the same words with no picture. I have emailed Case but have not heard back from them. The knife is special to me no matter the value, I'm just trying to decide where I'm gonna store it.

Can't really make out the dots on the tang but is 1980's and art work probably done aftermarket.I would estimate value around $50.IMHO

The John Wayne knife is not aftermarket. i have one in the original Case xx box.

Welcome to the site. It's not a real valuable knife in terms of dollars. It was your fathers.........I would put it in my pocket.

The John Wayne knife is not aftermarket. i have one in the original Case xx box.

I have to disagree if it were put out by Case it should have a metal medallion in the display box.
(Knife is legit but I don't think CASE did the artwork on the blades)

This is a new grind knife. The AAPK Case price list lists a new grind 6249 with bone scales made in 1985 and gives a price of $56.65. There is no mention of a John Wayne commenerative associated with this listing?

Hey Jason,
Being a "new grind" knife makes it sorta special too. That was only done in '83, '84, '85, if I recall correctly.
Count the number of dots on the tang stamp, and subtract from 1990. That will tell you exactly what year it was made. I wouldn't even try to guess a value... Since it came from your Dad, I'd value it at PRICELESS.

This looks like a Case 2013 John Wayne Cancer Foundation Special Bolster. I have the same one in Burnt Amber. CA7448 Trapper Amber John Wayne6254 SS. Mine is the single blade yours is the double.They made a few different versions I believe.

Welcome to AAPK, Helosat. Case has had a long-time license agreement with the John Wayne family to produce commemorative knives using his name and likeness. John Wayne commemorative knives are plentiful on eBay. The OP in this thread to which you replied is from 2009.

If you can post a picture of yours from 2013 please do so - we'd like to see it.
