WW2 Rare Double-Edged Richtig Fighting Knife

Well, an acquaintance of mine found this knife and it appears to almost be exactly the same as the one in the listing below. One exception looks like this one has the Maker's mark stamped on the pommel. The photos in this 1st post are all of his knife and not of the ebay listing. The ebay asking price is: $3,495.00or Best Offer+$76.90 shipping

... So... anyone here have any knowledge of WW II Richtig knives? I have seen a photo of his knives in a collector's book, but I am not familiar with him and don't have any books on him. $3,500+ seems a little high to me and I see not "sold" listing for one of his knives. I know there are fixed blade threads as well military knives threads, but I'll start here for any help from the experts out there. It seems a more realistic price might be below $500, but I really have no idea.

The knife on ebay is a ratty example and the seller will never see that kind of money. The one your friend found isn't in such nice condition either. Richtigs have gone down in price in the last ten years. They are very cool knives but as any other collectible condition is important.

I think that eBay knife is overpriced 10X, and maybe then some.

Correct me if I’m wrong and I know you will, but isn’t the attraction of Richtig knives the tempering process he developed and which allegedly died with him and has not, to my knowledge, been recreated?

I had asked that in a previous thread, the reply was it has been replicated with today's modern processes.

TOPDOG, in Levine's Guide To Knives - Expanded 3rd Edition, there is information on F. J. Richtig. (Page 360) There are pictures of a few of his knives and of Mr. Richtig.

Thank you Gunsil, ... the knife feels really solid in the hand and the handle is very tight, so I can see it was a well made knife back in the day. I agree with the wear on it (some one ground off the lanyard hole).

It is also a fact that a lot of people don't think about, is that interest in certain items that have a "collectible" value fluctuate and (almost always in my case after I buy something ) go down in value. A buddiy of mine that collected high-dollar knives years ago told me that in many cases after a maker dies there is a price spike on his knives and then as time goes on, a steady drop off as the memory and interest in his work fades away.
