Elephant Ivory Handles

I'm certain that I've shown this before but it is one of the most elegant knives that I own so I shall show it again. It's a custom knife by Ken Erickson that I acquired from my friend Roland Proctor. A dog leg jack with elephant Ivory handles.

Wonderful looking knife only to be bettered by the guy you got it from…Doc Proctor is a fine man.

Not just the knives he owns or has owned he is also full of knowledge that the hobbyists normally does not know or would want to put in the time to understand all the small details of collecting that Roland has done.

If you are referring to Roland, aka, Kootenay Joe, he passed away (just so you don't think he's ignoring you). There are several active members here who may have been helping Roland's son with the liquidation of his massive knife collection, perhaps one of them either has the ivory Hepworth & Pilley or could put you in touch with his son who would likely be interested in selling it.

I don't have a lot of vintage knives so I have no idea as to the date (year) of manufacture, but this is one of my favorite ivories for several reasons - not the least of which because it was gifted to me by my very good friend and blade brother, Ivoryman. It's a sweet little knife and in near mint condition; so, sorry guys, but it's highly unlikely I'll ever sell it!

I will, however, gladly present it here for your viewing (and drooling) pleasure

Thanks Q, appreciate the answer. Knife like that deserves a second look. Way to catch the grain in your pics, that is some fine tusk. Absolute beauty of a knife. Soooooooo glad you like that baby. One of the coolest little knives I have ever seen.

Very cool knife, RR. Is that a fleam blade I see? I am assuming that knife is for veterinary use.

If the ivory is over 100 years old and you can prove the provenance then it is probably legal. The laws are kind of complex (to me) but the central point of all of them is keep folks from selling ivory.
