Unexpected Treasure From The Shenandoah Knife Show
Last weekend at the Shenandoah Valley knife show I met a very nice gentleman who identified himself as an AAPK member who goes by "bogey". (If he told me his real name, I've already forgotten it.) He somehow already knew that I like to restore old knives, and he handed me this Valley Forge english jack (4 1/2" closed). He said that he didn't want any money for it, but just wanted to see what I could do with it. As you can see in the first two pictures, the pen blade was broken off, and once I got it apart, I decided that the badly worn and broken bone scales were too far gone to try to repair. I couldn't find a Valley Forge replacement blade in my box of blades, but I did find a Schatt & Morgan blade that fit quite nicely. The scales are Gabon ebony and both blades have good, hard snap. Bogey, thanks for the great addition to my collection!

There is something about you Herb that just seems to attract the right people!
You've done a wonderful save on a knife that I would have tossed aside immediately and forgotten.
Great job, buddy, your skills are absolutely shining through!

Sweet! I am glad that you found a blade that worked.
I have some old knives where I removed a broken blade because I couldn't find anything that fit.
Great save! You have done a few now in that Gabon Ebony, and it is a truly beautiful wood.

Wow that was quick. You did a great job. I bought that knife about dozen years ago at a yard sale for one dollar.
I just didn't want it to get thrown away.
