She saved me! (My new favorite knife)

Having just gotten over a case of Covid I was in a hurry to get back to doing what I do. Maybe I should have waited another couple days. I was in the engine room using an angle grinder and cutoff wheel.

Working in an awkward position, and with my head still being a little foggy, I was not able to keep control of the tool when it kicked back on me. It jumped out of the cut and went directly into my upper right thigh.

I felt it hit me, but was surprised and relieved to find no blood, and be feeling no pain. I figured I’d lucked out on that one and went back to work.

It was several hours later that I realized the cutoff wheel had been deflected by my GEC 86 with canvas micarta covers. So the knife in my pocket probably saved me stitches, came away with some battle scars, and has a story to tell!

I think this one just became my very favorite edc.

The pictures don’t do it justice, those gouges are quite deep.

Glad you're alright, Willie, and we just discovered another way our pocket knives can be useful to us in preventing injury as opposed to causing it.
Those gouges appear to be quite deep, it could have been much worse.
Better buy a lottery ticket with luck like that, bud!

Show it with pride. Seldom do people have such stories. Reminds me of a friend who had a nice condition pre 64 Winchester model 94. Looked nice for its age except the butt stock looked like it went through a woodchipper. I asked why he didn't clean it up, sand it down and add some varnish. He explained it got that way when he was shoving it down a mountain lions throat that had pounced on him while he was deer hunting. He had what was left of the felt hat he was wearing that day, hung on his den wall.

Wow, Willie, you can't make up a story like that! I've been using an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel for a long time (mostly to sharpen my mower blades), and I know that I'm going to be a lot more careful with that gadget now.

Back in the day when I worked in a steel fabrication shop it was a common injury to have a wound on the leg from a grinder kicking back like that. Even if you had leathers on and it didn't cut you, it left a nasty bruise. If cut, it was a trip to the clinic to get the wound cleaned, bandaged, and a tetanus shot. You were lucky, don't fix the knife, keep as is for a reminder.

Man Jake! I understand completely about the COVID brain, I'm just getting over my second bout with it, no fun.

On the best days, those angle grinders can get away from you, especially if you're like me and use them in angles or for things you probably shouldn't!

That there knife would from now on be the prettiest, best, and definitely favorite knife in my pile. And like the guy with the Winchester 94 mentioned above, I'd show it off with pride!
