I received a new knife today, and...it's gonna be a project. The screwdriver has definitely suffered some damage that ain't gonna buff right out. Eventually the screwdriver will be removed, and some material other than Delrin (likely Micarta) will be added. I don't know just yet if I'll do the work or have one of our knife mechanics handle it. In the meantime, I may clean it up as best I can. But I guess I did okay for less than $10.

Some folks have the screwdriver ground down into a Wharncliffe blade.

Example from the shop of Glennbad. Just something to think about.

This one came today from Henry Okleshen (oke1) at his AAPK Store. Real cool variation of a 3-7/8" Texas Jack, made by Queen in 1974 for the Commonwealth of Kentucky Bicentennial. Glad to have it in my small Texas Jack collection and as a memory of my time spent at Fort Knox in 1973. OH

That’s a nice Texas Jack. I haven’t seen one made by Queen before, sweet.

I got this one in yesterday. Posted it in the Moki forum. This is a knife made by Hanasaki, which was the name of the company before they changed it to Moki in 1987. This is a florist’s knife with ebony handles. It’s interesting that the quality is not what you see today on Moki knives. The run up isn’t as tight and the blade tip lands on the liner when closing, you have to move it over manually to get it to drop in the well. Moki has really improved a lot since 1987. It will go right into my Moki collection. Glad to have this piece of Moki history.

SSK, that is a remarkable Japanese made knife - most unusual frame - intriguing in its looks. OH

I agree with OH. Even tho the quality is off-putting, I find the lines/style of the knife attractive.

You find some of the nicest knives Mark, and that black lockback certainly isn't an exception, what a beautiful little folder.
Congratulations!

Thank you OH, Garry and Mark. The lines of this one really attracted me. I think the quality issues were somewhat common on Japanese knives from the 80’s. I bought it for the place in Moki history and not the quality.

Glenn did a superb job on that one! I'll give some consideration to such a modification (but it would be outside of my present limited skill set).

Some great pick-ups from Rob, Old Hunter, and Mark, too!

Thank you Dan and Tim.

Got these two in yesterday. More details in the “other Seki” thread. The small Damascus lockback has 49 layer Damascus. No brand, still trying to figure out which knife master was involved with making it. Nice little knife. My wife started eyeing this one yesterday, she loves small knives.
The other one has the Shirstone brand on it. Shirstone makes optical lenses and if I remember correctly ventured into other things many years ago.
This is a double lockback. The small blade release is the main blade. You push down on it to release it. Both have wooden handles. Made in Japan.

Nice pair. Love the whittler bones. And the tipped bolster. Also looks like some home-made scrimshaw or something on the white bone Prentiss Knife Co maybe? Looks like an ant or something to me. Very cool.

These 2 are great looking knives Mark, and solid too.
And being Japanese made pretty much confirms that.
Very nice, congratulations!
