Another unusual fish knife that I had to pull out "because" you don't see this pattern very often.
A Western States, "DOX FISH GAFF".

Joe you are blowing my mind here man. Those pics are fantastic, love the way they are staged, the black and grey coloring, and those knives are two more I've never seen before. How does the scale work on the Puma? I assume it involves that ball on the end, and the hole on the blade with a chain or cable...? And the gaff on the second knife, is that locking? Really cool stuff, thanks for sharing.

Well, thank you for the nice compliments on the pictures, guys. Very much appreciated.

Mike, that is pretty cool Puma knife.
It works by hanging the knife by the leather thong and then you hang your catch at an appropriate notch on the back of the blade.
A bit of trial and error to get the knife to remain level.
I have not used it for weighing a fish. I suppose it would help if I caught one big enough to be curious about. ::facepalm::
Thanks for the nice remarks.

Thankyou my friend. ::handshake:: It took some hunting and tracking to get it, but it was made under previous management of A. Wright and sons, Sheffield. England.

To answer your question, Marco, the knife was fairly modestly priced. Some years ago abalone was not as highly priced as today.

Here's a little "just because" knife that's been in the pile a couple of years now, a bit of an oddity. Actually made by Schrade.

I pulled this one out just because. A compact 21' overall. Might take it on tomorrow's coffee walk, just because. 🤭

Wow, that's a real mountainman's knife John. ::tu:: Very nice!
I thought my Gil Hibben "Old West Toothpick" at 17" was big, but your knife dwarfs it by 4 inches!
The handle is way cool also, especially the star on the butt-end! 8)

Some of our tastes in knives are quite similar, cuz the examples you post are knives I would have bought had I seen them, including this one. Very nice indeed! 8)
