Visually, I don't like them as much as a nail nick or longpull. However it is easier in terms of manufacturing, as they are punched out the same time the blade is punched. So I can see the benefit for the factory, 1 less operation to worry about later on.

The description says they are laser cut, so it would be an extra operation.

Are you sure the blades aren't lazer cut as well?

I jumped on the bandwagon and just placed an order at Deadwood Knives. $122.99, no tax, no shipping charge. Shipped today, delivery by Saturday Feb 4th - Wednesday Feb 8th. Gotta get 'em while the gettin's good. There's always time later for regret.

From what I’ve read about S35VN it is tougher and harder than Carbon steel, D2, and many stainless steels, but easier to work than many because of its finer “grain” due to the addition of Niobium (the “N” in the name). Just guessing that maybe the reason the blades are said to be laser cut rather than stamped. Probably would wear stamping tooling much faster. Said to retain its edge much longer but be more difficult to sharpen - use of conventional whetstones not recommended.

The only S35VN I have is on a Buck Paradigm which I EDC. It’s a great steel IMHO. I haven’t tried to sharpen it on a stone, but sharpening it is no problem using the diamond plates on my WorkSharp Guided Sharpening System.

With Case’s modern tactical EDC line (Marilla and Kinzua models) being S35VN and made in Bradford, I expect there to be more traditional patterns forthcoming.

I pre-ordered the Mini Trapper BH207W from Shepherd Hills way back in September "for October delivery" they said. I've checked every day to see if they've arrived in from the Case factory yet and they're still on backorder. Then, this morning I saw that Digital-Freaks, Deadwood Knives AND goodplace2shop all have them available on eBay. So, I called SHC to find out what was going on and the nice guy there didn't have a clue. Seems kind of strange that some dealers are receiving shipments of this series way before others. Personally, I'm very patient; but, unfortunately I can't say the same for Mini-T Monkey!

A little sleuthing on the CCC Forum found some posts referencing traditional style S35VN knives received by them last fall (September/October time frame). Did not say what dealer they were from but makes me wonder whether SHC also received some but not enough to fill all their backorders. A couple of CCC members are dealers (not SHC or SMKW), they mentioned BH series S35VN knives being shipped to them from the factory last week.

So maybe you’ll get yours from SHC soon, Q.

I have a Trapper and Medium Stockman in S35VN as well as a Chris Reeves Mnandi in S45VN with the nicks all the way through. I like being able to use either hand. I got the Mnandi in lefty because my right hand’s dexterity was compromised.

Well, that is very interesting, Ken. I'll admit, however, that I felt more than a little slighted by SHC after seeing all the BH207Ws showing up on eBay since I had placed my pre-order when they first appeared on the SHC website in mid-September 2022. I may not be a dealer, but I have been a very loyal customer of SHC for many years and I thought that might count for something. Apparently not. The online dealers like Deadwood Knives, digital_freaks and goodplace2shop all showed multiple (i.e., more than 10) numbers of the model I had ordered in stock. So, I went ahead and ordered one then I called SHC and cancelled my order with them that I had waited over 4 months to receive.

As of this post, the SHC website still shows the BH207W on backorder.

PS - All the sites had the knife listed for the same price ($122.99), but digital_freaks had a Best Offer option that I took advantage of and got mine for $120.00. with free shipping! I thought I was pretty clever until they added sales tax to my order and the total came to $125.65...so I actually ended up paying $2.66 more than if I had just waited since SHC doesn't charge sales tax on out of state purchases.

I don't blame you one little bit ~Q~. I just did the same with an inexpensive knife I ordered from China. It was ordered on November 25/22, and when it hadn't arrived by January 25/23 I'd had enough and cancelled it. It's like they had my money in their bank collecting interest for the last 2 months, when the money could have been in my bank collecting interest. I wanted the knife, but not that badly!

That's a small price to pay ~Q~ to get your knife sooner. SHC had your order for 4 months and didn't come through for you, so loyal customer or not they didn't show you much respect, plus you'd still be waiting for their backorder so I think you did the correct thing.
