Sheffield USA ?? Mark??

Post by bocaj »

I have a 2 inch gentleman’s knife marked Sheffield USA I have no idea what that means ? Also the bail is marked 10k. Does that indicate the handles are also a 10k mixture?? Thanks. It works great , just full of unknowns!

I've had a few of those and have seen others. Never figured it out. Not in any references I've seen. Maybe a jewelry store brand. The bails on those kinds of knives are often 10K but the scales are usually plated or filled,(marked G.F.) or some other alloy. Might need to look closely with a good magnifier. Good luck. It's in nice shape. J.O'.

Possibly a connection somehow. ::shrug::

No, I just found it on line when searching “Sheffield USA”. There are several similar images. Apparently the company made various silver and silver plated items. ::shrug::

But it appears there was at least a couple of “Sheffield” company names in the U.S. Goins’ lists several including Sheffield Cutlery Co.(no further info); Sheffield Fine Cutlery Co. Inc. c 1950-1951 Uxbridge, Massachusetts; Sheffield Steel Made in USA (no further info); and Sheffield Mfg. Corp. c 1927-1947 Irvington, NJ. Along with a couple of U.K. firms having Sheffield names as well.
