Case's Stainless Sea Beast Rehandle?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case's Stainless Sea Beast Rehandle?

Post by knifegnome »

I just got this Case's Stainless Sea Beast 5 1/2" Toothpick , I am trying to figure out if this has been rehandled. I am not familiar with Imitation Onyx handles, can anyone identify by the photos provided. Also the font in the word Sea Beast does not match to any of the books I have. Thanks for any information you have.

Doesn’t look like imitation onyx.

Might be imitation pearl.

Definite rehandle, the Sea Beast lettering is terrible.

The lettering is kind of script but should definitely be more uniform.

Looks like the OP one was done by hand with a rotary tool, and not very well at that. ::teary_eyes::

Original covers were celluloid, probably had to be replaced and did the best they could at the time.

Handles look to be some type of hard, solid composite. No shrinkage at the bolsters at all like you would expect to find on an old celluloid. Knife appears to be in great shape other than the rehandle.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

If only they did not use that rotary tool/engraving tool.
