Taiwan knife production

Post by Jeffcu »

Hello everyone
I got into collecting knives a few years ago and like every good obsessive compulsive, I have amassed an unhealthy number of pocket knives in a short time. Mainly a Spyderco guy but recently caught the Cold Steel bug.

One thing I noticed is that every single pocket knife from Cold Steel (Taiwanese made) has been absolutely perfect. Grinds, action, sharpening, blade centering, all perfectly spot on. Its uncanny. It’s the same with the Taiwanese made Spydercos. The CO produced Spydies are not far behind and the Japanese and Chinese ones, not bad but not perfect.

So, am I seeing a pattern here or not? Don’t have enough experience with other brands to draw conclusions about Taiwanese produced knives but man, the ones I have (probably around 20), are in another league. Anyone have Taiwanese produced knives in their collection from other manufacturers and what’s been your experience?

I have a couple of Taiwan-made knives by CRKT that are excellent quality. Not a large sample by any measure but those and others I have seen are quality cutlery. ::shrug:: Here’s an older thread on the subject. https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kn ... 25&t=77767

Every Taiwan knife I've ever had was a well made knife. Can't say that about some made in China knives that I've owned although I do have some really nice ones.

20 years ago knives made in china were junk because of the metal they used which was mined out of their own earth in china but about 15 years ago china exhausted all the metal out of their earth so no more metal is being pulled from chinese land now all the metal they use is from russia which is alot better quality then what they used years ago so now most knives made from china are of pretty good quality , the italian makers use 420 steel on most stilettos some are made with 440 but not many , your chinese stilettos are made with 440 and are very good quality , if you havent seen the recent stilettos swinguards leverlettos from china check them out they come razor sharp and are made with real good quality steel.
