Dan there is no way you could have gotten a better knife for the money. A outstanding company also.

This Schrade USA 893 Lumberjack arrived last night via USPS from Sanders AAPK store. An old Open Stock, but not appearing on ORVETS history pages. It appears identical to the 93OT Wranger except for the scales and shield. OH

Thanks for the kind words, y'all! ::handshake:: ESEE states that the Izula II weighs 3.2 ounces. Neck carry is one of the options I'm considering. (It just has to be open carried if I step off the property.)

Old Hunter and I-Man, those are some beautiful Schrades! ::tu:: A very useful combination of blades, too.

Nisaku Mizukatana

I bought this as a fairly short knife for cutting brush, and as a general beater for use around the farm. It and a Bowie-style knife were on sale for $15 each. I ended up only buying the Mizukatana, as it fit my want list--a dive knife made from a decent steel that could withstand use as a regular knife. It is made from DSR-1K6, an equivalent of AUS-6. It's also made in Japan.

Except for the handle being small, I like it. They did a good job sharpening it (though the line cutter has a burr that I'll have to take off), and the tip is a razor-sharp chisel I know I'll be using for woodcarving a lot.

The sheath is my main complaint. I suspect I will need to buy a different one, as this one is NOT secure. Knife slides out secured by the retention strap. It is too large, and seems designed for a bunch of different models. I suspect the sheath for the pry-blade Becker would likely fit this one well.

I will be carrying this one with me in the woods for hard use once the sheath is sorted out.

Bruce, that is a great looking Schrade! I'm a bit confused about the name and number. The great big Schrade, the 858 was also called a Lumberjack if I'm not mistaken. Do you have on thoughts on this? ::shrug::

Phil, thanks. Evidently Schrade used the Lumberjack name twice, for the extra large 858 and for these 893 jackknives. From digging around on old threads here and on Blade Forums, this knife was never in the Schrade Catalog or price lists. I have seen them attributed to being SFO runs for SMKW, WalMart and K-Mart. I know most of the ones I can find pictures of on-line came in a black box with red printing, were labeled LUMBERJACK and are said to be of carbon steel - also all I have found pictured have the nail nick for both blades on the mark side. On my knife the nail nicks for the two blades are on opposite sides and the blades are stainless steel. Looks like another Schrade mystery to me! Bruce

Thanks, there were much more knives brought to my tables but I was tied up dealing in firearms and just couldn’t get to talk to most knife guys.

I got these 2 from Matt Sanders/Sanders Knives store recently! First is a 7 1/2" oal Western S-532 lockback with hardwood covers in new condition, and second is a 6 1/2" oal Parker/Frost made in Japan slip-joint with MOP covers in gently used condition. Two very nice knives! 8)

My first (and last) QSP. I really like it, but I've decided NOT to buy any more knives made in China. This choice is just my personal preference; although, it may be a difficult resolution to keep since there are so many cool patterns with cool handle materials that are very well made knives coming out of China these days. But, for now, this will be my last made in China knife.

QSP "Locust" Brown Laminated Flax Micarta Covers, Open Frame Swayback Handle, Liner Lock, All steel construction (no brass), Two-Tone Single Wharncliffe Blade, Non-Assisted Flipper and Cut-Out Thumb Hole Opening. Curiously, the blade shows VG-10 on the tang, but the manufacturer's description claims it's 154CM. At 4.88" closed length, it's definitely a handful.
