I made a new set of clothes for this Bear MGC Sodbuster today. I am very happy with how this one turned out!
I began the project by trying to re-pin the blade. The thing felt like it was full of grit, and no amount of oil would help it. It turns out that it had a stainless 3/16" Corby-type bolt installed with red loctite, then the heads ground smooth. The bolt was egg-shaped rather than round.
Removing it was destructive so there was no way to salvage it afterward, and I couldn't seem to find washers that would fit to put a birdseye pin.
So it seemed the best solution was to cut up some Elk antler that I had bought, pin it back with 3/16" brass rod.
The small bits of pith that is left really stands out, so the next time I use Elk I will try to sand it thinner, and use liners if I must.
