Pay attention to the word “DESIGN” in the etch.

It’s important.

Not a fake. The knife you're asking about is not a knife made by Mel Pardue. It's a "Mel Pardue design". The difference can be significant in value and desirability.

It’s a fake. It’s not even a clone of a real Benchmade model sorry to say.

You can contact Benchmade and ask them. Send an email with pictures. Contact info is on their website https://www.benchmade.com/contact

Come back and let us know what you learned, so we will all know. ::tu::

I would be surprised Benchmade used AUS 8, but maybe they did in older knives? ::shrug::

Assuming it is a fake, why should anyone think it’s really AUS-8? If someone is going to fake a knife why not fake the steel too? ::doh::

Ken, my thoughts are AUS-8 is a lesser grade of steel than what Benchmade has been using. Usually they're "exotic" steels, at least for the last several years, starting with ATS-34. I think they used AUS-8 back in 2010, but this knife design doesn't seem to be that old.

I understand, that might be further evidence that it’s a fake. But what I’m thinking is if the knife is a fake why believe anything about it? The maker can stamp anything on it. They could stamp AUS-8 but it might be 440A. Or some cheaper steel. ::shrug:: If it’s a fake it doesn’t really matter I guess.

I suspect if it’s a fake, Benchmade will waste no time denouncing it. If it’s real, they’ll verify it.
