Has a solid half stop, no blade play, and snaps like a bear trap. I often wonder about its orgins, but will likely never know. ::hmm::
Mike do you think it is home made? Mail pull, and tang made me think possibly home made.
I have always suspected it being German made, prior to the tariff act of 1930 which required a country of origin marking on all imported goods. It looks similar to some old Solingen single blade knives I have seen. But of course that's just a semi-educated guess on my part!

Very cool Garry. ::tu:: I've not heard of that steel either. ::shrug:: Your knife reminds me of a Bob Dozier design. ::hmm:: 8)

Pulled out this old jack today. Pritzlaff Hardware, Milwaukee, WI. Obviously well used, but still solid and snappy. Every once in a while I pull it out just because.

Nice jackknife Mike, love the quality in those old time pocketknives. OH

In terms of simplicity and production quality, knives don't often exceed this older S&M of mine.

Wow, QS, that is a beauty. Looks like a doctors barlow knife with that bolster, really unique. What is the closed length on it?
That long pull looks really good with the overall long lines of the blade and handle

That's a stunningly beautiful knife Garry. Checks all the boxes for me, it's a S&M, it has a single spear-point blade, and it's old, simply perfection as far as I'm concerned. Wanna sell it??? lol! 8)

Thanks Marco and Mike. Its good to get your appreciation of it. I should clarify. By old I meant in reference to my collection, not the absolute age of the knife. It might be 12 to 15 years of age in absolute terms.

That's old enough for me Garry. It's old enough that I've never seen one quite like it. 8)

Hey Joe, that big Craftsman is a solid looking knife for sure. I like that spey secondary, looks like it could reach down into the depths of the peanut butter jar, then do a fine job of spreading it around! In a pinch of course. ::paranoid:: I know what you mean about carrying bigger knives in winter, same here.
Gary, I like that Bison scrimshaw, but I am with Marco, I am wondering what the rest of the knife looks like!

Garry will show us eventually, Mike. He likes to tease us into asking for more, as-a-matter-of-fact, Garry has a new "tease" going in "Show off your fixed blades" with what's looking like a very nice Marbles bowie I'm dying to see. Be patient bud! 8)

Well, scurrying through that zippered bag with the big Craftsman hunter I came upon a few other knives
that I thought would be fun to pull out "just because".

Here's one.
An unusual mix of stainless steel and aluminum.
It's a nice knife. ::nod::

Thanks for looking.
