Goofy shield idea
Sometimes I have an idea that I think is a little goofy, but I have to experiment with it anyway. Just because.
One is this idea of making custom shields.
I have tried colored epoxy a time or two, but haven't been wild about the results until today.
I took some 3/16" tubing, slit it longways, and shaped it like the letter "C". I put a slice of it into a Case empty shield cut-out, then epoxied around it.
I know that I could have gotten a shield from Case, but this one is "mine"!

I think it’s a winner! I especially like the yellow scales and the green epoxy!

I've got a 1999 Yellow CV Trapper in rough shape that I rescued from my parts bin and cleaned up. Needs an edge put on it, and a shield replaced.
I think I will steal that idea.

Re: Goofy shield idea
After studying it, I sort of wished that I had used copper and black epoxy. It might have looked more elegant. I may do something like that on another knife in the future, but I am happy enough with this one now.
Making the letter "C" was easy, and took probably 1 or 2 minutes. "O" would be easy too Making other letters - now THAT may be a challenge!

Re: Goofy shield idea
I appreciate all of the comments.
I have not worked much on knives in the last year or so, and many that I started did not turn out like I wanted.
I started learning from some of the earlier mistakes, and the last few knives have been some that I can enjoy far more.
Your encouragement has helped, and I thank you all!

How did you get from the blob of epoxy to the finished look?
When did you take off the excess and how?
Looks great.,, inquiring minds want to know

I just smoothed it on the belt sander. I think I used a 400-grit belt.
