What does the S mean on a John Primble knife?

This info was for a friend of mine. He was looking at some to buy. There was also a display and that is where he read the knife numbers and some were followed by an S. It was not on the knife. I misunderstood that part. I think that the S may tell which ones were made by Schrade.Thanks, for your help.
