Knife color after tempering?

Post by Sybr86 »

I just finished heat treating my first blade. I ground it out of ⅛ thick 1095. I tempered it at 400°F for 2 cycles of 2 hours. Is the color change a normal part of tempering?

Yes. It will become a straw color when tempered which is about what you have. Nice looking blade!

Sure is a good-looking blade! ::tu:: I look forward to seeing it finished.

Thank you both for the reassurance about the color. I'm currently waiting on some green and black G-10 for the handle material. I'll post an update when it is finished.
