Who made this knife?

Post by DMLEATH »

This is a beautiful knife- looks like it says A. W. On the tang. I think it may be handmade. Would someone recognize the maker? Thanks for any input!

AW could be someone's initials put on with a scribe or engraver. What is the handle material?

Handles appear to be stag

Look like a kit knife. I doubt that a maker with the skill to make such a knife would mark it like this.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

That's exactly what I was thinking Wayne. ::nod::

Even if it's custom the maker definitely wouldn't have scrawled his initials in like that.

There are a lot of Japanese knives that look exactly like that shape. A.G. Russell had thousands made like this knife. I have seen several that had nothing other than Japan on the back of the tang with nothing on the front tang. I think the handles are amber bone and not stag.
Definitely the initials were scribed by hand by someone, but not the manufacturer.

I also believe this to be a kit knife.
The pivot pins show, the shield is crooked and the shield pins are showing.
No way I can believe this is a AG Russell or other quality factory knife.
