Stocking up on scale material
I do most of my scale replacements with wood, so just stocked up on some blanks. Can’t wait till a project Presents itself!

Wood is my favorite scale material on a knife. Stag may be
just as good in some cases. When I see wood I always have
a feeling that it is somewhat custom. I like the idea that
my knife will look like no other ( just as stag does).

Very cool. Is any of that oak? I have a real fondness for oak trees, and have always wanted a knife handled in oak, but have not found the right one yet. What are your thoughts on oak as a handle material?

Hey, man. None of that is oak, but I do re-handle plenty of stuff with oak. Not necessarily because of how it looks, but because you can get 1/4 x 1 oak strapping cheap at Home Depot. Here’s some stuff I’ve done in oak...

Ive rehandled a couple old beaters with white oak. Used a Buck 112 and sandpaper to do the job , now have a small bench model belt sander which goes much faster. I have a bunch left over from a project. makes a nice looking handle. I am rehandling a bunch of Buck 110 and 112 each in a diffgerent wood specie. Actually I am having them done, my work is far from good enuff for a good knife so far. I did find some fire box elder I gotta have for a handle. and some spalted maple. good lookin stuff.
