The All Scout Knives Thread

Added an unusual early 4 line Camillus Scout, looks to have had little use and is unmolested, pretty hard to find on a pre WW2 knife. Has a nice slim blade profile compared to most Scouts, still has Sword Brand etch. Bottle opener has a long pull instead of a nail nick, punch is fairly long, very pointy and sharp, closest I've found to a GEC punch on a vintage knife.
I searched multiple Scout knife threads and was only able to find one other example of this knife, I'm thinking 1920's, 1930's or so.

Here's the opposite. Very cheaply made German camp knife. Guessing made between the wars. Just stamped "MADE IN GERMANY". Shell handled. A relic of it's time I would say. Paid $2 for it, probably 8 or 10 times it's original price. J.O'.

I love the Boker (USA) 9361. I'm preparing an article on collecting this knife for my blog, and a good friend decided I should complete the situation with the 9361's modern descendant, the Böker Magnum Classic Pocket Steel. I've often pondered this knife, but could never bring myself to buy one (Asian production, dumb name, etc). Well, the one Matt ordered for me arrived today with a note that said "For research purposes." Thanks, Matt!

Anyway, I have to say that it's an impressive knife for 18 bucks ($24 from Böker). The wood scales are pretty, the pivot action is ok -- I've felt better, but I've felt worse -- and the knife blade itself is razor sharp. The can opener is utterly unsharpened, but I haven't tried it yet so maybe that doesn't matter. The awl has a nice edge on it, a la the Victorinox Pioneer. My only criticism is the lack of finishing on the bail and the swivel pin that holds it in place. It's sharp and poky. Otherwise, gosh, this is a lot of knife for $18.

I was sharing these conclusions with my friend Matt. Personally, I've avoided buying China-made tools for reasons of quality and because I like supporting American businesses. But I have to say that this Böker is an impressive little package. I could easily see giving one to a young person to get them started in pocket knives, or even carrying this knife as a daily beater while keeping my vintage Case 6445R nice. But then again, nah... I'm lucky enough to be able to afford a user/carrier 6445R. But getting a young person or scout started on the pattern? Sure.
