Do you know what type of stone it is formed from?

Can you tell me what state it was found in?

I'm a newby as far as this forum and have been posting about some knives I inherited, but you are talking my language.
Only have a couple of arrowheads and those I traded a kid for in East Texas. Gave him a couple of nice seashell fossils from W. Texas. His folks house was on an old campground by a creek.
Never actively hunted the Indian artifacts.........just always have my head down checking out the ground when I'm out.

PHIL,It is gray granite, Found in New Mexico, I found old US button & Buffalo nickle at the same location, The nickle was in the dirt when they made the adobe bricks for a Small cabin, it melted out of the brick & was laying there in plain sight. Would love to go back there some day, There was a lot of action & good placer gold at that location. That was a good time.

I'm in Kentucky and there's no natural granite here that I'm aware of, yet most, if not all the celts found locally are granite. The folk who made those tools obviously had a trade network or they sure walked a long way. How would you like to sit down and shape that celt out of that hard, dense stone? Pretty impressive in my opinion.
