Any Train Enthusiasts Out There?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

1967redrider wrote: Wed Nov 16, 2022 1:33 pm I always thought my 2 bay coal hoppers and empty gondolas looked too plain, then I saw a vid on YouTube of a guy (Bob's O Gauge Trains https://youtu.be/PJoK8b8dw0Q ) making coal load inserts out of foam and stimulated coal medium, so I thought I'd give it the old college try.

He uses wooden paint stirrers to support the foam, I thought, why not just use styrofoam? I did follow the rest of his process including mixing the Elmer's glue 50/50 with water and a little dishwashing soap. I bought the ballast medium at Toy Trains & Collectibles in Manassas on Saturday when I was en route from my visit to the farm. It also helped that my wife was still out of town for most of this project. 🤭 Picked up a couple other goodies too, imagine that! 🤣

Wasn't sure I was going to be able to spray paint after work on Monday, but the weather did cooperate. I think these turned out pretty good. I'm going to get some gray spray paint and spray the gondola loads to simulate gravel instead of coal.

Looking forward to running them on the layout, hopefully for this week's #ThreeRailThursday. 🚂🎉

Wow! That sure looks like real coal! You nailed it! ::nod::

And always remember..., ::super_happy::

True dat, Tom. ::tu:: It's not some magical energy that comes out of three holes in the wall. 🤭

We had a major rail derailment the other day due to weather. A culvert washed and gave away after torrential rain. The rake was only half way over it, so the back of the rake piled into one another like a domino affect. They got the loco's and unaffected carriages moved this morning, but the remaining clean up is hampered by soft ground. They cannot get the cranes and trucks in.

Somewhere in the great southwest, Texas I think. There's some stretches out there that there's a whole lot of nothing but ground and bushes.

No one was injured, but that line carries 6 passenger trains per week. A passenger train would have been a disaster.

There was a train colision & derailing here in Gifhorn, Germany today but nobody is reporting about it on TV. ::hmm::
You have to search the Internet to find out anything.

Seems very fishy to me. ::shrug:: Being kept in the dark? ::hmm::

Ain't that an understatement. ::facepalm:: Hope this doesn't totally derail (no pun intended) our train thread, but not one thing on the evening news last night about investigations into the Biden family's business relationships with foreign entities . . . like China and Ukraine. *as I sip some Kool-Aid*

Very cool, David. A good day for railfanning?

Just came across this video of U.P. relics rolling up the rails to restoration.

That 2-10-2 Santa Fe has to be a rarity, seems like Mallets survived the cutting torch much better. I took some screenshots while watching, almost seems surreal. True behemoths.

Great shots and video. Some interesting history there, and good observation about avoiding the cutting torch. ::tu:: ::nod:: ::nod:: ::nod::

I'm fairly certain that UP was never even thinking of striking.
They go by all the time and have been doing so for a long time.
