Very cool! I built one a few years ago, and enjoyed it. But it never grew on me, so I took it to a gun show and sold it and an old shotgun that I’d been aiming to sell….and brought home a Marlin 1894 presafety 44 mag. Hopefully the old 44 will bring home bambi here in a few days.

I guess I started doing the "cleaning my game" thing when I was so young that it never did nor does it bother me now. I probably cleaned my first squirrel when I was 8 or 9.
I still enjoy going out and "makin' meat". There is something really satisfying about shooting (or catching) then cooking and eating the food on the table.

Some of you, like me might have been making the same mistake I have been and saw the Heritage Arms revolvers and because of their low price, assumed they were imported. I recently purchased one of the Barkeep 22LR revolvers and found out that they are indeed made in Bainbridge, GA. The Barkeep is their take off on the Colt Single Action Army revolver from back in the day that had 3 inch or shorter barrels. These were referred to as Sheriffs models or Shopkeepers models. The Barkeep has a 2 and 5/8 inch barrel, and because of this lacks the ejector that is usually seen on single actions. Heritage provides a tool, with a steel rod and a wooden handle to eject the empties from the cylinder. If for any reason you lose or forget your ejector tool, dont fret. Pull the cylinder pin and use it for that purpose. I have shot 50 rounds thru mine and while it certainly does not provide match grade accuracy, I was not expecting it to. The target shown was shot at 10 yards, an average range for any Barkeep to deal with rowdy customers in his or her establishment. With Federal LR HP ammo, mine shot slightly to the left and just below the top of the front sight. The grips are wood and carry an eye pleasing fish scale pattern.

The hammer block safety when flipped down allows normal firing. From cowboy action shooting, I am used to shooting single actions with the high left thumb for cocking the hammer. Thus it works well to rest the left thumb on the hammer block safety when it is in the fire position.
Despite it being a low price rimfire revolver, it is solidly built and is a blast to shoot.

Mike, I like that term, "makin' meat"! That's a good way to describe what goes on be it a game animal or one of the many meat type animals that folks buy in the store. Someone had to take its life and get it prepared to go into nicely wrapped packages for the grocery shelf so folks can enjoy meat protein. It has been a way of life for us as far as the venison goes, supplement the critters food year-round, after harvest, prepare for processing and then properly package everything for proper freezer storage. Like you said, "really satisfying".

Mike, TF, I’ve been “making meat” since I was a little kid and we killed hogs (multiple) in the fall and made hams, sausage, lard, etc… Then I graduated to squirrel, quail, and rabbit hunting with dad and we had to clean all those critters too. I surely don’t mind it at all, but there are other aspects of the hunt I enjoy more.

Here’s a critter cleaning story you’ll like. When my oldest two boys were little, probably 4 and 6 give or take a year, they were going to help me with a limit of doves I’d killed that day. As a matter of fact, I had my limit and another feller had given me his limit of doves that he didn’t want. So I’m getting ready to clean these birds and the two “big” boys come outside to “help” me.

We wondered what they’d think about it, but they got right in there are did a pretty good job of it. Next year the helped again, and so on. To this day my oldest son can clean a mess of doves faster than I can.

The boys have dressed and/or skinned everything from doves to raccoons, from rabbits to deer, from chickens to turkeys.

They’ll tell you that the raccoon was one of the best critters they’ve eaten.

Back when I hunted I never dressed out a deer but know I could have done it. Grew up doing chickens and rabbits and hubby was a hunter so did lots of pheasants, ducks and geese. No danger of me loosing my breakfast.

I don’t have one of the Heritage 22 revolvers, but my oldest two boys each have a Ruger Wrangler 22. I’m sure the Heritage is just as fun as the Ruger version. Any 22 is a hoot and and a half to shoot imo!

I’ve long wanted a single six. A few years ago I was trying to make a trade at a gun show. The feller had a single siz with both cylinders. We got with in $75. I offered him mine and $50 and he wouldn’t budge.

I walked over $25 and have been kicking myself ever since.

Nice looking pistol.
I watched a Youtube video about the Heritage pistols. This guy had a Barkeep and loved it. He then bought a Rough Rider (I think that was the name) and the hammer spring was weak in this pistol. It would only shoot about 3 out of 6 times due to a light hammer strike. He called Heritage and they were real nice and said they would send out another spring.

In the mean time, he swapped the Barkeep hammer spring over to the other pistol and his problem with it was solved.
Just throwing this info out there. SO.... if you decide to shoot it, keep this in mind.

Several years ago at a gun show I was trying to work a trade for one just like that, with both cylinders. They guy asked me $75 between what I had and the Ruger, which wasn’t bad.

But being hard headed I offered $50 and neither of us would budge, so I walked for $25.

I’ve kicked myself often for that.
