A 6220 is a Case bone handled 2 bladed small serpentine jack knife, but it's also a black Lionel AT&SF yard Switcher with a bell ringer.

Looked it up, those look cool. Now if you could find a pin (like a hat pin) from one and have put into the handle of a 6220 Serpentine Jack, that would make an awesome Cross-Hobby EDC. A cool discussion piece around knifers & trainers.

Or knife trainers.

Hi Folks,

Drove to the train station tonight to pick up our daughter. First picture is a small green regional train that was driving on the train track next to the road that we were driving on. So two moving objects at night= bad picture. However, next 7 or so pictures are of the same small green regional train at the station.

Think I'll stop posting pictures of them after today. It's always the same stuff at the station. Red & Green. Plus, they might start to think I'm a "Spy" running around taking pictures every week. I'll continue taking my tablet with me though just in case something different should be there sometime.

I'd like to see a freight train with some millitary equipment on it as long as that doesn't mean we got caught up in the war. Or something else interesting.

So here are, for a while anyways, the last of the Reds & Greens. I'm usually there after dark at this time of year so the pictures suck anyways.

Don't stop, always interesting to see them. They are more interesting than the coal trains that I post. I was reading up a little on rail travel in Germany. I read that the intercity trains travel up to 124 mph, and the intercity express trains reach speeds of 200 mph. Have you ever traveled on one of those at that speed?

Don't stop, always interesting to see them. They are more interesting than the coal trains that I post. I was reading up a little on rail travel in Germany. I read that the intercity trains travel up to 124 mph, and the intercity express trains reach speeds of 200 mph. Have you ever traveled on one of those at that speed?

I have traveled with trains here maybe 5 times or so in the last 30 years when going to Zoo's and stuff like that. Some moved slower, some moved faster but I don't think they ever moved at 200mph. I know some trains rip through that train station with I'd guess 60-70 mph. (I don't know.) First time it happened I was a bit scared to be honest. It was like & . You'd like to think they would pass by slower than that. First an announcement comes that there is an incoming train & then 20-30 seconds latter it rips through the station like a bat out of.....
If I had to guess, I'd say the fastest I have ever traveled with a train was maybe 80-90 mph, maybe 100 mph.

Oh yeah, the other evening as we were driving to the train station, one of those small green trains was on the tracks next to the road. It was traveling at about 60-65 mph. as we were also. That's a normal traveling speed between towns around here.

I always thought my 2 bay coal hoppers and empty gondolas looked too plain, then I saw a vid on YouTube of a guy (Bob's O Gauge Trains https://youtu.be/PJoK8b8dw0Q ) making coal load inserts out of foam and stimulated coal medium, so I thought I'd give it the old college try.

He uses wooden paint stirrers to support the foam, I thought, why not just use styrofoam? I did follow the rest of his process including mixing the Elmer's glue 50/50 with water and a little dishwashing soap. I bought the ballast medium at Toy Trains & Collectibles in Manassas on Saturday when I was en route from my visit to the farm. It also helped that my wife was still out of town for most of this project. Picked up a couple other goodies too, imagine that!

Wasn't sure I was going to be able to spray paint after work on Monday, but the weather did cooperate. I think these turned out pretty good. I'm going to get some gray spray paint and spray the gondola loads to simulate gravel instead of coal.

Looking forward to running them on the layout, hopefully for this week's #ThreeRailThursday.
