Camillus Streamline MOP Experiment

Another outgassing Cammy Streamliner that looked from the outside to maybe be OK, but when I removed the scales both liners were eaten away in the middle and, of course, both of them fell apart into pieces when I took the knife apart. I was going to chuck everything into my parts bin, but I had just rediscovered some synthetic MOP that I purchased a while back (pre-pandemic) that I have been wanting to try. It's not quite as "fiery" as genuine MOP, but much less difficult to work with (and a lot less expensive). I can't remember who I got this stuff from, but I remember they were marketing these big, thick slabs as a new material to be used for, I think, fixed blade knives and pistol grips. I called them and ordered 4 pieces ( I think it was about $20, shipped) and the person I talked to asked me what I was going to use it for. I told them that I like to work on old knives, AAPK, yadda, yadda, yadda, and I wanted to see how this stuff worked out. The package arrived with 10 slabs of the regular pearl, and another 4 of what they called "antique pearl" (next to last pic).

Herb, had to look twice at your Streamliner and it’s new scales ! Sure had me going at first thought it was the real deal .
Excellent rebuild . And a very nice looking usable old Camillus knife now .

Thanks Mike! I'm pretty sure (but am not 100% positive) that the stuff I got is called "Kirinite" and this is where I got it:
https://kirinite.com/collections/pearl-series The pieces I have are 6" x 1 1/2" x 3/16", which is one of the sizes they offer, and I have this supplier bookmarked, so this must be it. Ouch, the price of this material has gone up a bit!!!!! I think I just got lucky and they had just started offering it.

Not too shabby , though IMHO the darker material would have better suited the StreamLine.
