Pennsylvania members attention!
Attention all Pennsylvania residents - AKTI and the cutlery industry have worked diligently to repeal the state law banning manufacture, sale, or possession of “automatic” knives in Pennsylvania. The state legislature is in its final hours of this session and the bill is up for vote. Urgently needs your support for passage.

If you live in Pennsylvania, please contact your State Senator now to ask them to support and advocate for the passage of HB 1929 as drafted.

Hope you called your state senator before you crossed your fingers. It would be great to have some automatics made by the great Pennsylvania cutleries again.

Nothing yet on the AKTI web site. If you live in PA call your senator's office and ask!
Come back here and post what they tell you, please.

Weird. I got an email from AKTI at 4:14 PM that stated it had passed the Senate. I guess that they won't put it up on the site until it's signed into law.Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 9:18 pm Nothing yet on the AKTI web site. If you live in PA call your senator's office and ask!

Great news! I got the email also, just hadn't looked at email.
Says it passed the senate unanimously! Hope that bodes well for signature by the governor!
W.R. Case, GEC and others were business supporters of the bill, so I'm hoping we see some products from them within a year or so.

Re: Pennsylvania members attention!
Got an email from AKTI this afternoon - the governor signed the bill into law. It will be effective January 2, 2023.
“The passage and signing of HB 1929 represent continued progress in the view that folding knives are tools regardless of how they are opened. AKTI is grateful that Pennsylvania is the 45th state to take the position that one-handed knives provide a valuable utility to knife owners across this great nation, said Mark Schreiber, President CRKT and AKTI President. “We appreciate Representative Causer, Governor Wolf, and the entire Pennsylvania legislature for their thoughtful consideration of this issue.”
Ken“We first met with our PA State Representative, Martin Causer, in March of 2021 at the Zippo/Case Museum & Flagship Store in Bradford, Pennsylvania, to ask for his help in removing the prohibition on automatic knives,” remarked John Sullivan, Director of Compliance of Zippo Manufacturing Company & W. R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company and Vice President of American Knife & Tool Institute (AKTI). “From there, we began onboarding several Pennsylvania manufacturers, sportsmen’s groups, and trade unions into a coalition to help ensure our success when previous efforts had fallen short. Together with Representative Causer’s leadership and the team at AKTI, and particularly David Garriepy with Tremont Strategies, who worked on the government affairs side, we got HB1929 passed. This is a great day for Pennsylvania knife owners and enthusiasts, who have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to purchase a Case-branded auto knife that could be made right here in Bradford, Pennsylvania.”

Re: Pennsylvania members attention!
Very cool. Virginia repealed their auto knife laws effective July 1, and recently SMKW let me buy and auto. BladeHQ has been selling me autos for quite a while, go figure.
Now some Case or GEC offerings in the auto line would be spectacular.

Never let that law stop me. I believe it was 2013 when the law was repealed in Indiana. Good old internet made it possible for me to find them and I ain't quit yet. As long as they keep making new ones I'll keep buying them, as long as I have the money.

The history of the ban on automatic knives (switchblades) is an interesting read: https://blademag.com/knife-history/why- ... es-illegal

I can't wait to see what Case and GEC do. I've been seeing the old Case "Zipper" autos, and a replica would be pretty neat. The one auto that I can say I'd use the most would be a G. Schrade Flylock penknife, and well, finding one that isn't worn out and broken at a price under $100 is an exercise in futility. I'd love to see that remade.
It also makes me wonder if Queen would've lasted a few more years if this had been done years before they closed.
